Open source Enterprise CMS and Document Management vendor Nuxeo (news, site) is extending the value of its Nuxeo Connect support and maintenance service with a new product named Nuxeo Studio.

More eDiscovery software, this time from FileTek (news, site). It has just teamed up with Laserfiche (news, site) to create the Trusted Edge Intelligent Email Archive solution for Laserfiche, effectively extending Laserfiche’s enterprise content management functionality by enabling it to tackle unstructured email content.

It has often been said that recession is good for business. In the ranks of eDiscovery software vendors there are few who will argue as recent research by Gartner (news, site) shows companies moving to in-house eDiscovery and a corresponding, consistent growth in sales of eDiscovery software.

Congratulations are in order. Clearwell Systems (news, site) has been awarded US Patent No. 7,593,995.

For those of us who are not patent examiners, US Patent No. 7,593,995 refers to “methods and systems of electronic message threading and ranking.”

Some companies are so on the ball they’re nearly ahead of themselves. Such is the case with Mimosa Systems (news, site) which has just announced that as of the end of this month, NearPoint will support Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 (MES 2010).

If you are familiar with MES then you might be a bit surprised with this as NearPoint for MES is a solution for capturing and archiving email, while MES 2010 on its own already has its own archiving function, which appears superficially at least, to be quite adequate.

Anyone that has been following developments at Doculex (news, site) over the last year will not be surprised by its recent addition of customized workflow capabilities to its flagship content and document management software, Archive Studio.

Specifically, they will not be surprised by the addition of these capabilities to WebSearch, the company’s document management and email archiving component of Archive Studio.

Enterprise content management giant Open Text (news, site) has upgraded its email management for Microsoft Exchange with the release of Email Management 10, which will identify and zap emails that are deemed unimportant and store those that are.

In the current climate anything for free can only be a good thing. So news that Doculex (news, site) has announced the availability of a free connector that allows users to integrate their business applications with the company’s Archive Studio WebSearch document management software is especially good.

 UK-based Daeja Image Systems, developer of the in-browser java applet image viewer, ViewONE and its big brother ViewONE Pro, has just added a new module to ViewONE Pro that allows users to view Outlook messages in HTML and Plain Text formats, as well as EML messages on a single page without the need for Outlook itself.

One company is going close off this year on a high note whether or not it wins any of the four categories it has been nominated at this year’s Document Manager Awards in the UK.

That company is Cheshire-based Version One (news, site)  and it has been nominated in four categories, including contender for best website at the awards, which take place on October 22nd.

The other three categories include Storage Product of the Year category for Diarchic, Green Product of the Year finalist for DbAuthorise and Email Product of the Year for DbMail.

German developer Open-Xchange has teamed up with Romanian outfit Rack-Soft. The combination of both companies' products offer a total communication solution with telephone, fax, instant messaging integrated with e-mail, contacts, calendar and task information.

With unified communications picking up a lot of press as companies try to keep their employees in contact via the most suitable means, competition is increasing for the major players like Cisco.

Smaller outfits will increasingly group together as these two have done. The combined package is available as an on-premise or as-a-service and they have worked with SaaS expert Parallels to simplify deployment for new users.

Rack-Soft brings its hosted PBX and the latest version of VoipNow (2.0.3), which has just added local time zone support to make handling international calls easier, while Open-Xchange provides the e-mail and collaboration components. 

Open-Xchange offers an AJAX e-mail app.

With Open-Xchange's Community Edition available free for non-commercial use, a trial version and a range of Appliance, Server and Hosting editions, there's bound to be something for everyone.

With the general launch of Trusted Edge v4.0, Maryland-based FileTek is taking the unstructured content bull by the proverbial horns and -- transparently, the company says -- going onto employee’s laptops and desktops to get all that pesky content properly classified.

What this version of FileTek will do is to extend existing enterprise content management policies and go rummaging through desktops where FileTek reckons up to 80% of this content resides.

What’s even better the company says, is that you don’t have to be working with a FileTek product to use it as it can be easily integrated with the majority of large ECM systems, including SharePoint, IBM Content Manager, Open Text Livelink and EMC. 

A new Portuguese-based document management software provider has come up with what has to be one of the cheapest -- if not the cheapest -- product on the market.

With a release date sometime around the end of September, e-grou’s Free Edition is exactly what it says – free, and while you may think that this will just be a kind of glorified file exchange, the company insists that this is a real SaaS document management system.

Aimed at small organizations that cannot afford a document management system, but who still need one to do business, the free edition can integrate with Microsoft Office and comes with AutoCAD connectors, which might offer a clue as to the industries they are targeting.
