Web Publishing Fun with Drupal Integration and CMIS Repos

woodwing logo 2009.jpgStirring up the vibrant web publishing game is WoodWing, a company we haven’t mentioned in a while. The last time we spoke of them they were playing around with Alfresco and partnering for Smart Newspapers.

This time they’ve brought to the table the latest version of their flagship product, the somewhat awkward to pronounce Enterprise 6 Content Publishing Platform and they are building new and interesting bridges with their pluggable repository architecture. Let's take a quick look at how they're evolving the web publishing side of our landscape.

CMSWatch Vendor Map: Random Thoughts on Microsoft, Google, Facebook and Vignette

CMS Watch, CMS Watch has a pretty interesting content management vendor map (see link below), laid out in the format of a subway map, which makes for intriguing viewing. The diagram is overtly enterprise-oriented, and links vendors according to their scope of operations across various content management arenas like Enterprise CMS, email archiving, DAM, XML management, etc.

It’s interesting to note that there are five main ‘Hubs’ — extending the subway metaphor — of vendors who can provide pretty much everything. Microsoft, IBM, OpenText, EMC and Oracle.

Datawatch Monarch|RMS Brings Web-Based Reporting, Analytics to IBM DB2 CM OnDemand

datawatch.png

Enterprise info management firm Datawatch has announced that Monarch|RMS, its hosted report mining and analytics offering, is now integrated in IBM’s DB2 Content Manager OnDemand.

Monarch|RMS enables clients to view statistics relevant to their sites from remote locations so they can make more expedient decisions about what’s working and what isn’t. It does this by converting existing reports in a given CMOD system into hosted, filterable and more pliant data.

Clients can filter data most relevant to themselves and even perform multidimensional cube (OLAP-style) analysis. And at will, they can convert reports into tables, charts, graphs or spreadsheets.

Data can also be exported to templates, spreadsheets and even presentations in XML form.

You — the tech guy! — could look like the coolest kid in the boardroom.

Has .Net Overtaken the Battle for the Enterprise?

For years the war for the enterprise has raged between Microsoft and Java with the heaviest battles occurring since the inception of .Net. However, recent research indicated that .Net is now coming out on the winning team.

This news is from Info-Tech Research Group - an IT research and advisory firm. According to an article on InfoWorld, Info-Tech’s research indicates that in a survey of over 1,850 organizations of all sizes and industries: .Net is the choice over Java most often.

The report indicates that 12 percent of the surveyed companies focus exclusively on .Net, while only 3 percent are exclusively Java. That’s a big difference and should spark some lively debate in the Java community.

To throw the Java community a bone, Info-Tech compares Java to legacy code in that it will always be around just like the infamous Cobol. Not sure if that’s a postive thing or not.

The report (which is not sponsored so it should be vendor neutral) is entitled It’s Official: .Net Roasts Java’s Beans and is available for a fee on the InfoTech site.
