Earlier this month, OASIS hosted a forum to discuss standards and interoperability issues for cloud computing. As a technical community dedicated to creating and promoting open standards, OASIS tackles many of the tough challenges that government institutions, private enterprises, software vendors, academics and system integrators face when creating applications and platforms to run our digital economy. Business is global, systems must interoperate, and content flows from person to person both inside and outside the firewall. Sharing and re-use of information is made possible only by letting diverse systems work together. This is the beauty of standards.

Brendan Coveney is a funny man. He’s also head of Americas and Asia/Pacific for Nuxeo. At last year’s Nuxeo World he gave an entertaining and insightful – seems the two can go together – analysis of content optimization. This year at NuxeoWorld he took on the no less stimulating top of the Power of the Platform for building apps, nudist beaches, and the features a great platform should have.

There has been anecdotal evidence across the industry about the growth of Nuxeo in Europe since it opened its doors in 2000, and more recently in the US where it set up in 2009. If you listen to some big data pundits, you might get the impression that Hadoop can do almost anything. Heck, I let Hadoop babysit my kids last weekend. There is, however, couple of tiny things the big data powerhouse has not been able to conquer -- SQL syntax and real-time queries. Cloudera is trying to close that gap.
