Like many of you, I’ve heard versions of this statement on an accelerating basis of-late. It begs the question: why are enterprises handing out mobile devices on such a regular basis to new, and oftentimes nearly all, of their employees?

Apple is including an “app lock” feature in the new iOS 6 platform that will lock the device, allowing only one application to run. In a blog post, Apple partner Zenprise explains that app lock (also known by the less restrictive-sounding name “Guided Access”) is designed to allow users to provide their workforces with “purpose-built iOS devices.”

Let’s face it, mobility should absolutely be on your radar if you’re an IT executive or decision maker. Whether your firm has a substantial investment in mobile devices for the workforce or you’ve adopted modern BYOD policies, you cannot ignore the impact of mobile devices on how we do business. Nokia may have initially been shrugged off as a has-been in the smartphone business, due to the demise of its former flagship Symbian operating system in deference to Android and iOS.
