Many enterprise companies have greatly benefited from the evolution of Apache’s open source Lucene and Solr enterprise search solutions. With over 4,000 installations of Lucene and names such as Netflix, Alfresco and MySpace using it, it’s easy to understand the impact that is has had.
As with many open source projects though, there was no guaranteed support. There was nowhere to go for quick answers, easy customization and troubleshooting. Until now that is. Lucid Imagination aims to solve to issues that surround the fastest growing enterprise search solutions today.

The act of initiating a query via search functionality is no longer seen as a magical, mythical process. According to a recent CMS Watch report, The Search and Information Access Report 2009, enterprise search technology is no longer perceived as being a stealth and secretive operation.
After having interviewed enterprise search customers from around the world to evaluate 20 solutions in the marketplace, it was evident that because of modern search offerings with the availability of improved administrative tools and APIs, the aura of search technologies has been demystified.

When David Girouard, vice president and General Manager of Google enterprise, said the Google Search Appliance has “had a vision to make search inside of business as simple and effective as searching on Google.com” he wasn’t lying.
And with the recent slew of upgrades to GSA, we think it’s safe to say the line between that vision and reality has blurred considerably.

There are a number of organizations today that use the Google Search Appliance. And why not, it’s a solution in a box that is relatively easy to use. You buy a machine, plug it in and then configure your setting appropriately. Very nice.
