Social collaboration software provider eXo is releasing version 4.0 of its open source Enterprise Social Platform. eXo says the platform will offer numerous collaborative features and an intuitive user interface (UI).

Companies struggling with getting workers to adopt an intranet now have a new way to win them over. Style. eXo's new Mobile 2.2 apps have been redesigned with a high style approach, and the iPad version even takes advantage of the tablet's crisp retina display.

Intranets are usually envisioned as a centralized tool for collaborating and sharing information, but in many cases the vision does not equal the reality. Intranets often become stagnant repositories of hard to locate, inconsistent information.

It seems the intranet is getting an infusion of new life in the form of social networking. Last week we reported on Jive’s new social intranet; this week platform-as-a-service provider eXo is announcing their social intranet as a service, Cloud Workspaces.

eXo has released the latest version of its open source portal, eXo 3.5. The release has lots of new features, but the big news may be the portal’s journey to the cloud.

BonitaSoft (news, site), maker of business process management tools, has released version 5.5 of Bonita Open Solution, their core process management suite. In this version, Bonitasoft is leveraging eXo's (news, site) xCMIS technology to more tightly integrate document management, BPM, social media and collaboration. The eXo and Bonita relationship allows users to directly access  services like enterprise social networking and document collaboration.

Lots of big news in the enterprise world this week, including Microsoft's very, very pretty penny for Skype and the release of Yammer Desktop 2.0. 

eXo (news, site), well-known for its Java portal and user experience technologies, has announced it is adding Ruby and Git to its eXo Cloud IDE. The inclusion of Git will enable direct deployment to Red Hat's new OpenShift platform-as-a-service (PaaS).

This week the Enterprise 2.0 world saw the introduction of a universal application development environment, a new social media marketing bundle, and a fairly important discussion: What is the difference between a layer and a feature?

Today saw the partnering of eXo and Netvibes. Together the two companies will enable their customers to customize dashboards and integrated third-party applications via a new environment. 

It’s been an edgy 18 months for eZ Systems (news, site) with a couple of changes in CEO, new releases and now, only this week, the announcement that it has secured another €3.3 million (US$ 4.47 million) in funding.

It didn’t take long for treasures to start emerging from Amazon’s recently announced Elastic Beanstalk. eXo (news, site) has released an integrated development environment (IDE) for Elastic Beanstalk -- developed for the cloud, in the cloud. The IDE allows developers to access, view, edit and commit their code from any browser and deploy their applications with a single click. It’s not a golden-egg laying hen, but AWS developers will still appreciate it.

In yet another fine display of consumerization, eXo (news, site) has integrated the eXo Platform into Seesmic’s desktop application. The mash-up simultaneously extends Seesmic’s social management capabilities to the Enterprise, and brings modern collaboration features to eXo’s enterprise portal.

Business Intelligence (BI) has gone social with the collaboration of respected open source companies JasperSoft (news, site) and eXo (news, site). The companies are providing the ability for JasperSoft’s BI applications to interact with eXo Platform 3.0 social features and gadget-based development.
