BonitaSoft (news, site), maker of business process management tools, has released version 5.5 of Bonita Open Solution, their core process management suite. In this version, Bonitasoft is leveraging eXo's (news, site) xCMIS technology to more tightly integrate document management, BPM, social media and collaboration. The eXo and Bonita relationship allows users to directly access  services like enterprise social networking and document collaboration.

It didn’t take long for treasures to start emerging from Amazon’s recently announced Elastic Beanstalk. eXo (news, site) has released an integrated development environment (IDE) for Elastic Beanstalk -- developed for the cloud, in the cloud. The IDE allows developers to access, view, edit and commit their code from any browser and deploy their applications with a single click. It’s not a golden-egg laying hen, but AWS developers will still appreciate it.

Business Intelligence (BI) has gone social with the collaboration of respected open source companies JasperSoft (news, site) and eXo (news, site). The companies are providing the ability for JasperSoft’s BI applications to interact with eXo Platform 3.0 social features and gadget-based development.

There's a lot of activity in the open source portal space lately. Today eXo (news, site) released eXo Platform 3.0, the latest version of their Java-based enterprise portal offering. Let's take a look at what it has to offer.

At the RedHat (news, site) Summit in Boston yesterday, there was a lot of good news surfacing around the release of version 5 of the JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform.

 eXo (news, site) is on a mission to ensure that their customers have everything they need to build an end-to-end portal solution. Today the open source enterprise portal vendor adds two more services to the eXo Platform: Knowledge 2.0 and Collaboration 2.0.

Things have changed a lot for eXo (news, site) since we first covered the open source enterprise CMS vendor back in March of 2009.  With a steady stream of updates and a new partnership with JBoss, it was only a matter of time before the company added some social features to their list of capabilities.

Back in 2009, eXo (news, site) and Red Hat (news, site) banded together to create an enterprise-level portal. Now that portal has reached a new milestone in its maturation and growth.

eXo (news, site), the makers of Java middleware and open source Enterprise CMS, got a VC infusion of US$ 6 million. eXo plans to use the money to strengthen its U.S. operations, especially in the areas of sales and marketing. The new Board of Directors should provide the needed executive leadership in the expansion.

Following Apache Chemistry’s suit, another Java-based and open source implementation of the CMIS specification hit the streets. Meet xCMIS -- a server side implementation of CMIS developed by eXo (news, site).

Currently in xCMIS 1.0 beta1, xCMIS supports eXo's Java Content Repository (JCR), third-party CMIS clients, new eXo CMIS client based on Google Web Toolkit (GWT), and an integration with the GateIn portal.

The implementation is done according to Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) version 1.0 draft 06 for REST AtomPub and Web Services (SOAP/WSDL) protocol bindings.

So far, the implementation (packaged as J2EE .war, or as an Apache Tomcat bundle) includes the following:

• CMIS server
• InMemory for testing purpose
• Client for accessing CMIS-compliant repositories

eXo reports that it has tested their implementation with other CMIS clients, such as IBM CMIS Firefox Connector and CMIS Spaces Flex+AIR client.

A new OEM agreement between eXo Platform (news, site)  and open source business process management( BPM) developer BonitaSoft means that from here on, eXo’s document management software will be integrated with an open source BPM system that has full development and support services for easy deployment.

The agreement between the two follows a number of years working together which resulted in the release of eXo’s DMS with Bonita’s BPM earlier this year. With this new agreement, the two companies will be offering users dedicated support and services for the new product that includes a document collaboration and validation system as well as automated records management.

Another European company has announced that it is opening a US office. This time the location is San Francisco and the company is open source solution provider eXo (news, site).

This follows the announcement in June this year that Red Hat’s JBoss Portal, eXo's Portal and eXo's Java Client Repository (JCR) were all to be merged into a single product that strikes the right balance of robustness and usability.

It is hardly any wonder then that the new board of advisors that will be helping eXo founder and CEO Benjamin Mestrallet to break into the US has a strong Red Hat presence including Sacha Labourey, a former middleware co-general manager who participated in negotiations on the eXo/Red Hat partnership before joining eXo.

eXo (news, site) has taken its relationship with RedHat one step further today by offering the first major deliverable that adds its enterprise content management and collaboration software into the new JBoss GateIn portal.

eXo (news, site) has released the latest version of their Document Management System -- DMS 2.5 -- with improvements that offer users the ability to change unstructured content into structured content .

This, the company says will be done across all the document processes that are capturing, managing, storing, preserving and delivering documents while at the same time securely distributing it.

The kicker is that users can do this in the same way they might use File Explorer on Windows and File Finder on MacOSX.
