Companies want to be able to know where you are at all times so they can hit you up with an ad/sale/coupon/offer/message when you are at or near certain locations. Mobile devices make this pretty easy to do -- Foursquare makes it even easier. 

Shoutlet, a cloud-based social marketing platform, announced that it is now integrated with foursquare, the location-based friend-tracker.

Hearsay Social is getting together with foursquare. On Friday, the social sales and marketing provider announced that its platform now supports checkins and other functions on the location-based app, to give companies the opportunity to connect with customers when present in their brick and mortar store.

The looming post-apocalyptic future for Apps and AppStores aside, there were still a cornucopia of app launches at SXSW this year. Alan Cooper nailed it when he said that one of the biggest trends he has seen as technology has changed is how the differences in deployment models and computing devices have shifted the strategy and goals of people designing and creating software.

Lots of negativity in the world of Google this week. In addition to the big disappointment that was the Gmail app for the iPhone, there's plenty of trash being talked about the new look of Gmail and Google Reader.

The Pew Internet & American Life Project has recently released a study on the use of location-based services in the U.S. Among the findings, about a quarter of American adults use mobile devices to get recommendations and directions, while only a small number use location-based social networking services to check in to their current locations.

Social location, marketing and media darlings Foursquare (news, site) and Groupon (news, site) are planning a deal to leverage their strengths and to offer customers the best deals in town.

In quite a week for Internet-based problems, the services side of Amazon (news, site) has promised a full inquiry into the problems that beset its North Virginia data center last week.

Amazon's (news, site) Elastic Cloud Compute service went down last week and is still recovering today, after bringing a number of major services to a standstill. Meanwhile, Sony's PlayStation network is also experiencing problems.
