With all the news of Facebook's IPO this week, Google's still-fledgling social service marched over another user milestone as the improvements and other changes in the Google ecosystem keep on coming.

We said earlier in the week that we couldn’t talk about Alfresco 4 until today. Well, it’s today now and we can talk a little bit about this latest release, although only a little bit because it really is enormous. With it, Alfresco pushes its open content management platform firmly into the mobile and social space.

So say Google's critics about a company which, lets face it, is only 14 years old. We know what they're like; trying to grow up quickly, but really still a kid at heart. And that pretty much sums up the company's week as it keeps trying to please users while trying to obey the grown-ups.

 Assuming Microsoft accepts it has no tablet presence and won't for some time, then it needs to get Office to as many tablet users as possible to keep one toe in a booming market. So, why not bring a new Office to the iPad?

There is a lot of hype around 'cloud computing' and this month's theme at CMSWire is all things cloud, so maybe we will be able to figure out whether those clouds are stormy, rain filled, or basically sat at each end of a rainbow (with the associated pot of gold, of course…).

This time in Google news, Docs takes a nosedive but makes up for it nicely with new, discussion-inspiring features and other enhancements. Meanwhile, the search results page is getting yet another makeover.

There were a number of new releases in the document management space this week. LibreOffice has announced the release of a public beta of its extension and template repositories, Google Docs gets synced with PCs, KnowledgeTree Ships with DM tools, V1 integrates with Oracle E-Business Suite and Toshiba extends its print services.

Welcome to another week in Google! This time around, the Internet giant bought a survey giant, wrote a new Web language and (possibly) brought a tool back from the dead. 

It may have been Labor Day weekend, but it’s been a busy week in the document management mines. Kofax has announced it is to go public after some impressive results for the year, Google is offering offline Gmail, Formtek and Ephesoft have partnered for better capture and ARX is offering mobile document signatures for SharePoint.

This week, RecMan extended its records management for Google Apps by adding to Gmail, IdentityLogix adds security module to VMWare, M-Files and NetSuite integrate, CaseCentral puts R5 on general release and Recommind’s Axcelerate e-Discovery is named trend-setting technology for 2011.

CMSWire recently looked at why Google Docs is not Enterprise CMS. We did note at the time, that the on-going development of both native and 3rd party functionality was shifting its shape. The most recent of these additions brings certified records management functionality to Gmail and Google Docs.

After everything that has happened around the OpenOffice fork last year, the Document Foundation has announced the release of a version that is suitable for enterprises, Google Docs got a makeover, Kofax and Atalasoft have released an imaging SDK, Metalogix offers archiving for Exchange and Marex releases Filebound Express.
