Try as it might, Google hasn't seen much success in the social realm: Wave totally bit it, Buzz has had lukewarm reception, and we're still not sure whether or not the Internet giant's rumored social network will amount to anything more than a pipe dream. While most hopefuls are campaigning for a massive turnaround in 2011, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says Google is on the verge of giving up.

This week Google celebrated the second birthday of Chrome with a new stable release, and Wave's life was prolonged by at least four months. 

Google's acquisition of SocialDeck hit the rags yesterday, marking the Internet giant's third purchase this month, and further suggesting that a primary-colored social solution is in the pipeline. 

Be it a move as big as an acquisition or as small as a feature adjustment, Google is seemingly doing everything it can to be more social. Could this be a sign that the rumored Google Me social network is real? Maybe. You heard it right! Google Wave, the collaboration/communication platform that was once postulated to be -- among other glorious things -- the Second Coming of e-mail, is getting the ax. In a surprising turn of events, the Internet giant and its team of worker bees have announced they're officially halting development on the tool. 

Today's big rumor is that Google is cooking up some sort of social network that will challenge Facebook. At least, that's what Digg founder Kevin Rose hinted at on Twitter:
