Fishbowl Connects Oracle UCM 11g Search with Google Search Appliance

While the release last year of Oracle’s UCM 11g offered users, for the first time with UCM, a unified repository in what Oracle described as a “strategic release," searching content was always going to be a problem. Fishbowl (news, site), an Oracle Gold Partner, is offering a way to overcome that with the release of a Google Search Appliance connector.

Tying Google Search into Nuxeo Enterprise CMS

nuxeo_logo_2009.jpg Open source enterprise content management (ECM) vendor Nuxeo announced the Nuxeo GSA Connector that enables Google Search Appliance to index and search content stored in the Nuxeo Document Management platform. Organizations using Nuxeo and Google’s search appliance can now have the ECM content in same search results as other content indexed by search appliance and actually get closer to living up to the “enterprise search” moniker.

Semantic search has been the new black in the high fashion of content management and the industries around it. Nstein (news, site), a provider of Web CMS, DAM and text-mining technologies, just released a new product -- which they say is more flexible, intuitive and extensible than Google Search Appliance -- called Semantic Site Search, or the “new kind of site search,” as the vendor humbly refers to it.

We had a chance to get an early demo and talk to Eric Williams, Nstein’s product manager, who told us all about his "little baby" under the code-name 3S. It may be a newborn, but it comes with a strong featureset of multi-index federated search, embedded Text Mining Engine, semantic widgets and a more flexible presentation layer.

Google Chases ROI With New Search Appliance Connectors

Google (news, site) gave more power to administrators who have to integrate offline and cloud-stored data with a collection of new Google Search Appliance (GSA) connectors -- all in the name of quicker and higher ROIs.

In its quest to make all data, wherever it hides, available to Google's monstrous search tools, the company has released a new collection of Connectors that help tie together yet more data that may be hiding in previously inaccessible corners of an enterprise's systems.

Among the new Connectors is one for Salesforce which allows the Google Search Applicance to search any data in the salesforce.com CRM. As Salesforce is a big thing in many organizations, making that data available to users and help them find client information that may be stored in databases, spreadsheets and other resources.

Additionally, improvements have been made in the existing connectors for content management systems, including SharePoint, Documentum, FileNet. Notably, the SharePoint connector adds 64-bit Windows support, batch authorization and multiple site collection.

Google Personalizes the GSA Experience

When David Girouard, vice president and General Manager of Google enterprise, said the Google Search Appliance has “had a vision to make search inside of business as simple and effective as searching on Google.com” he wasn’t lying.

And with the recent slew of upgrades to GSA, we think it’s safe to say the line between that vision and reality has blurred considerably.

Considering Google thinks it’s God’s gift to enterprise content management (per some saucy words by Product Marketing Manager David Bercovich), getting pinned “Best ECM Partner” by the search giant is no small accolade.

This is the label Mediasurface received at Google’s Partner Connect ‘07 awards. Hey, a good team player is hard to find.
