If it were not for Facebook and Twitter, would non-startup web content management vendors even put out new versions of their platforms?

Hyland Software (news, site) added to its inventory of content management (ECM) solutions with the recent acquisition of Hershey Systems, a provider of Web-based ECM solutions to the higher education market.

Yes, one of those “strategic partnerships” was announced between hosted Web CMS vendor OmniUpdate (news, site) and Noel-Levitz, higher education web design and development firm.

Under the mantra of “holistic approach” to website development and web content management, the two aim to bring OmniUpdate’s CMS, OU Campus, closer to those in hi-ed.

OmniUpdate is well known for its affection for higher education, with many of its customers being in this vertical. The joint effort is focused on helping hi-ed clients build websites using OU Campus as the CMS of choice.

Last we’ve heard from the Saas CMS vendor was when it released version 8.6 of OU Campus with improved editorial usability. In 8.5, it was mostly about proper garbage disposal and controlling those random delete-all bouts.

Like Day Software, OmniUpdate also courts the Serena Collage unfortunates wanting to migrate away towards brighter days of web content management.

In this week's installment of the grass is always greener, we bring you a report about information and content management in higher education. Some may envision that academia breeds a certain caliber of organization and structure that the enterprise can only wish for.

Well, anyone who works in education, either administratively or in the classroom, knows that it could use a little more strategy and fewer bureaucracies when it comes to organization and management.

Enter Eduserv, a non-profit IT services provider based in the UK, who recently published findings from its Investigation into the Management of Web Content in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).  

OmniUpdate (news, site), a higher education sector CMS specialist, released version 8.6 and added a global find-and-replace feature in its OU Campus CMS.

The new global find and replace feature was added after much feedback from a recent OmniUpdate user conference. It works pretty much like in a word processor. A literal text or regular expression can be searched for, previewed to confirm it is something you want to change and then replaced with the new term.

Plain text can be searched, as well as HTML, CSS, XML and other code. So, admins can replace also code segments. If left to run automatically, the find and replace feature can make changes to as many as 5,000 files per second, says OmniUpdate.

Initially, changes are made to files on the staging server, so a test can be run to make sure nothing is broken before accepting the changes on the live site. Not happy with the results? 

Use  the rollback feature.

Hannon Hill (news, site) keeps tinkering away with its Cascade Server v6.x Web CMS, which today was released as v6.2.

After only a month of testing Cascade Server 6.2 Beta, which was released on June 9th, the official release of v6.2 incorporates all the major changes in the beta version plus a few fixes.

After all the turmoil the economy has spurned upon us throughout the last year, higher education still remains a steadfast institution. Banks, auto makers and publishers may come and go, but education remains solid. Sure, tuition may be higher, but enrollment is still thriving.
