Yesterday we saw in the Forrester Wave for Enterprise CMS Suites 2011 for Q4 that there is a shift in the enterprise CMS market away from the big, lumbering giants of a couple of years ago toward more content-centric apps designed to fulfill a specific business function. Today, we’ll take a look at how some of the major vendors are dealing with this challenge.

Discussion around the evolving role of enterprise CMS and the software that aims to do that are almost a weekly phenomenon. This week’s discussion comes in the shape of the Forrester Wave for ECM Suites for Q4, which highlights a number of issues that we already saw in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for enterprise CMS last week.

In yesterday’s look at this year’s Gartner’s enterprise CMS Magic Quadrant, we saw how growing pressure on enterprises to achieve better productivity has seen many turn to enterprise content management systems to achieve that. Today we look at the companies that made it into the Leaders Quadrant as well as their strengths and weaknesses.

When Hyland (news, site) released v10 of OnBase last December, it focused on case management. With this week’s release of v 11.0, it has changed the focus to mobile enterprise content management, and agility -- agility, that is, as we understand it to be responsiveness to changing business environments.

This week, Hyland released v11 of OnBase, Nuxeo announced it has made its document management software available for Ubuntu, Laserfiche has announced a Systems Integrator Program, M-Files offers support for Microsoft Dynamics GP and Adeptol released an SDK for its image viewing platform.

Even if the year is winding down, some companies just keep going. Bitrix has upgraded its Intranet software to v9.6, Hyland has released OnBase 10 and IBM has upgraded Lotus Notes Traveller. In other news, new research from AIIM shows that the message may finally be getting through -- a paperless office can have positive results. 

While many analysts have remarked on fragmentation of the enterprise content management market, Gartner’s recently published Magic Quadrant for ECM has not only identified how and where that fragmentation has played out, but also how it will carry into 2011 and beyond.

In the world of document management this week, we look at the issues of compliance when it comes to managing documents using social media and enterprise collaboration tools.

Back in the full swing of things this week with Hyland Software outlining its plans to take OnBase worldwide and Office 2011 for Mac finally going to RTM. Xerox has also launched its rebranding campaign, while PSIGEN extends the reach of its document capture software.

Busy, Busy, Busy. Labour Day weekend over and right back into it. This week document capture features quite large, with a couple of new solutions and Kofax hitting the high notes with its end-of-year figures. Hyland Software has also been looking at document and content security.

There’s always a lot to chew on in the AIIM annual State of the ECM Industry and from a compliance perspective this year is no different. While compliance is losing out to BPM as a adoption driver, we can’t seem to get enough of risk management solutions.

 Joining the throng of applications riding the wave alongside the SharePoint and Office 2010 Microsoft updates comes Hyland's (news, site) ECM and OnBase modules.

We always look to the analysts to help us narrow down our selection of vendors for things like enterprise content management.
