Ungoverned Spaces: Innovating Information Flow

Agile Governance to Ensure that Reliable Information is Available Anywhere Anytime

A good many companies now have information functions in the Cloud, for a variety of reasons. There is the purposeful selection of cloud services for the usage and management of data, content, records and documents -- in other words, information -- that supplements or replaces systems inside the firewall. There is also the proliferation of data and content -- more information -- created in many cloud-based sites not under the control of companies. But companies want and need all of this Information -- and also need energetic ways to govern all of this information as it flows in and out of the spaces used by enterprises.

Archiving Everything is Not Information Governance Sanity

The amount of information building in organizations today forces us to put in place smart information governance policies. Simply archiving everything is not a feasible or an intelligent plan.

One of the biggest information governance drivers today is eDiscovery. With eDiscovery pressures management now has the ability to create a solid business case for refining information governance practices: reducing the volume of records flowing into eDiscovery systems translates into real cost savings.

But creating an information governance plan is no easy task. Consider for starters that most of the involved groups don't typically talk to one another.

Enterprise CMS and Information Management firm Open Text, along with Forrester Research Senior Analyst Brian Hill, is holding a mock eDiscovery meeting on November 16th at 2pm Eastern time. The event will bring together key players from IT, legal, Records & Information Management and the executive team to hash through strategies for meeting requirements while reducing current pains.

Along with a discussion about the current state of information management, this light-hearted session will examine many of the serious issues organizations face when trying to manage the mounds of information they're responsible for.

This event is designed to help you understand the concerns of different groups and provide solid guidance for creating an information governance strategy that works for your organization.

The bottom line message is that it's time to get smarter -- stop archiving everything and utilize the proven business case to support a more discerning governance strategy. Reserve your seat for this session and learn how to take the next steps towards governance sanity.

The Rise of Information Governance

In the Terminator series, the evil computer network Skynet leads the rise of machines in an effort to destroy humanity. Hopefully things won't go that far in a new report called The Rise of Information Governance, which tackles the often complex, confusing and confounding issues of information management and all that it encompasses.

The report, written by the 451 Group, attempts to define information governance, as well as examine the market dynamics and drivers, adoption trends and profiles of 15 vendors working towards information governance zen.

The Cost of Information Misgovernance, and What You Can Do about IT

Information governance -- historically a bottom-up practice and now the responsibility of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) managers -- has been pushing its way into boardrooms around the world. Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, The Basel II accords and similar regulations have triggered this trend.

The problem is that the concerned parties rarely speak the same technical language. Modern enterprise information management systems are helping to address the problem but there are still a few secrets to success. Here are some things to keep in mind during your initiatives.
