The focus of this year's Enterprise 2.0 Conference in Boston can be summed up in one word: Collaboration. The event was teeming with solutions of similar structure, each with an aim to enhance the same concept. And while that might've been a let down for attendees hoping to see some variation, it certainly serves as an undeniable indicator of the future of business. Here are some of the highlights:

Jive Software (news, site) has finalized the integration of its recently required social media monitoring solution, Filtrbox, into its Jive Market Engagement Solution.

Research firm IDC has a new list you might want to pay attention to: 10 Innovative Application Companies Under $100M to Watch.

"IDC has projected 2009 as a year of accelerated adoption of new business models for applications, including software as a service and open source, as well as Web 2.0 capabilities and functionality," says Michael Fauscette, group vice president, Software Business Solutions, IDC.

To pull this list together, they solicited entries from vendors who make enterprise software. Vendors had to meet the financial criteria and demonstrate one or more aspects of three key trends, including Web 2.0 capabilities in the Enterprise, SaaS, BPO or open source solutions, and new business models for software use by service providers. The selection critiria came from the  IDC's Worldwide Applications 2008 Top 10 Predictions.

So who made the list? There are more than a couple of names we recognize, with a particular focus on social computing: Jive Software, Telligent, Atlassian, Kaltura and Trampoline Systems Ltd., among others. There's no specific order to the list, in case you are wondering.

IDC profiles each of the 10 companies in this 9 page report -- that'll run you US$ 3500.

Interesting to note that Atlassian, Jive and Telligent also made Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Social Software in the Workplace.

This is just further evidence of the growing strength of social software in the enterprise and its potential to displace content management as a key technology.

Jive (news, site) has had some serious money pumped into it over the years, and recently it's bagged another US$ 12 million to bring its social enterprise platform to the fore.

At the Enterprise 2.0 conference in Boston in June, Tomoye demoed the latest version of their enterprise community and social networking platform for SharePoint. Now that latest version -- 3.0 -- is available and it has a number of new features and licensing models that may interest you.

Today they claim they have the next big techology solution for the enterprise and they have staked their communities software name on it. Say goodbye to Clearspace and hello to the Social Business Software Application Suite - Jive SBS 3.0.

It just seems right to end the day with one final piece of news on SharePoint. This one comes from Packt Publishing who has released a new book on SharePoint entitled: SharePoint Designer Tutorial: Working with SharePoint Websites.

pTools, an enterprise content management vendor, announced new enhancements to its Enterprise CMS software for Microsoft SharePoint. It is now integrated with Equilibrium’s digital asset management software — MediaRich DAM for SharePoint.

Jive Software, a provider of enterprise collaboration and community software, can hardly stand it. They are just bursting at the seams with good news. With record growth, a new online community and a new CFO, who wouldn’t be excited?

It looks like a busy April for Jive Software. Not only did they announce the release of Clearspace 2.0, their social productivity software, they also announced their acquisition of Jotlet, a web 2.0 social calendar solution, to be integrated into Clearspace in the future.

Originally released last year as a people-oriented alternative to Microsoft’s SharePoint, this new version of Clearspace was inspired by a customer demand for “Facebook for the Enterprise”.
