Small business IT staff and Microsoft beware, Google’s latest offering intends to take a large share of the messaging platform business away from the competition as well as the operating costs away from the enterprise. Google Apps for your Domain, as it is currently called, puts the familiar GMail interface into the hands of novice users and on their own business domains.

The Gartner Group and CMS product vendor Xythos have teamed-up for a free webinar covering concepts related to the emerging enterprise content management category they call “basic content services”. Xythos recently released an update to their ECM and document management product, which now features DoD 5015.2 compliance.

The webinar will be held next Thursday November 2, between 2:00 and 3:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.

The LWWCM standard edition offering is a full featured version, targeted at the dreamy SMB slice of the market. "Workplace Web Content Management Standard allows us to go aggressively at the mid-market," says Michael Loria, IBM Lotus director of marketing.

Forrester recently surveyed 878 IT decision-makers at North American enterprises. Forty-eight percent represent enterprises with 1,000 to 4,999 employees, and 52% represent companies with 5,000 or more employees.

Per the report, in the context of custom development and integration projects, 56% of the firms interviewed have standardized on the .NET platform, with 44% on J2EE.

Also of interest, spending on CMS technologies was leveling off, however 30% of the firms reported they would increase ERP spending to support compliance requirements.
