Kentico Web CMS Offers Social Networking Edition

Kentico Offers Integrated Social Networking

Kentico has been hard at work on the latest edition of their Web CMS. This new edition, still in beta, was recently demoed at the Gilbane Conference in Boston.

What's so special about the new version? It will include social networking features and functionality to enable businesses to build online communities and social networking sites.

The Social Networking Edition will be available with version 4 of the Kentico Web CMS. This new version is now said to be a complete solution offering content management, social networking and e-commerce in a neat little package.

Features of the Social Networking Edition are fairly standard for this type of solution. They include blogs, forums, polls, user-contributed content (wiki), groups, friends, message boards, content rating and improved membership management.

The solution handily comes with a Starter Community Site all ready to implement.

Kentico is joining the masses of content management providers offering an integrated solution of content management and social networking. This was to be expected. There's not much information on the new Social Networking Edition on their website yet, but you can learn more about their .Net-based Web CMS, including the free version available. You can also try out a Beta of Version 4.

The official release is expected before the end of the year -- but time is running out.

Kentico CMS Integrates Silverlight 2.0, Windows Live ID

Kentico Software Announces Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 Windows Live ID Support

Kentico Software, a Web CMS vendor, announced at Microsoft Professional Developer Conference 2008 (PDC2008) that they have integrated Silverlight 2.0 and Windows Live ID support into Kentico CMS.

Kentico CMS, a Web CMS developed for ASP.NET, now enables Web site developers to easily integrate Microsoft Silverlight 2.0 content into their sites, which ultimately results in more interactive Web sites. Granted, Silverlight lacks the adoption rate to have that much of an impact, but its support is likely very welcomed amongst developers who utilize this technology.

Also new for Kentico CMS is the support for Windows Live ID user authentication — Visitors to Kentico CMS-based Web sites can sign in with an existing Windows Live ID account, without requiring to create a new account.

While Silverlight 2.0 lacks adoption, plenty of users likely have Windows Live IDs, and this might end up being far more useful to the Kentico CMS, at least in a short-term outlook.

The Kentico team is currently showing off both technologies integrated into Kentico CMS at PDC2008. Visit Kentico’s Web site for more information about their products and services.

Fooshy: A Low Cost Web CMS from North England

Fooshy Web CMS

Sheffield in England is famous for stainless steel and the movie “The Full Monty”, but you may not have heard of Fooshy. Fooshy? Right.

When I first heard, nay read, the word Fooshy, I swore that somebody must have made it up. But it’s there in the Urban Dictionary alright, and apparently means sleep, being similar to the sound of snoring. Believe it or not, Fooshy is a actually the moniker attached to a new Web CMS created by Illuminaries (now there’s a name I can live with), a software development company based in that city of steel, although Fooshy itself appears to be a separate company.
