Cape-Town vendor Knowledge Tree has just released KnowledgeTreeLive, which offers users document management in a web browser on an on-demand basis.

The idea of “open sourcing” a company’s intellectual property has traditionally been applied to the source code that makes up a particular application. Yet in a surprising move, Knowledge Tree - which already offers its document management system under an open source license - is releasing all of its documentation, developer guides, and marketing materials under a Creative Commons contribution license.

KnowledgeTree has updated their KnowledgeTree Document Management System to version 3.4 — a more powerful take on its existing low-cost alternative to typical document management solutions. The main differences lie in a gaggle of Web 2.0 features — which have become darn near required for any sort of legitimacy these days: tagging, tag clouds, and XML data feeds.
