When we think about global information management (GIM), it’s important that the right information gets translated into the right languages so it can be made available to the right people.

SDL Language Weaver, who just launched a new GIM product called SDL BeGlobal, knows these principles.

 SDL (news, site) adds to their translation capabilities with the acquisition of Language Weaver, a provider of SaaS-based statistical machine translation. What does this acquisition mean for SDL's global information management platform?

Last summer, SDL (news,site) launched a Worldwide Language Service Provider Partner Program to help organizations get their content in the right format to the right customer. This week, they have announced another strategic partnership with Language Weaver, a self-described human communication solutions provider.

SDL plans to deliver Language Weaver’s translation software integrated within their Global Information Management platform and eventually, as part of SDL Knowledge-based Translation System.

Along with the pleasure of growth comes the familiar pain of multilingual translation.

Translation, a process that seems simple enough, actually requires great skill - not all subcultures or age groups communicate in the same way. Then there’s the matter of localization, or better tailoring a product to a certain market, which is also an oft-overlooked element of interpretation.

The point: translation is complex. With that in mind, Language Weaver and Armedia have jointly released Machine Language Translation for the enterprise CMS community.
