The runup to the release of IBM’s (news, site) LotusLive Symphony has been a long one and we’re still no closer to being offered a release date other than sometime in the second half of 2011. However, Big Blue has been working on the project, and has now released its third technical preview of the product.

With the Bing spat still ringing in our ears, the next little tiff looks set to be about Google’s Cloud Connect for Office and Microsoft’s response to it. Email use is exploding, while eXpresso is offering document collaboration on LotusLive. LibreOffice has also been busy.

In the SMB space this week, a look at research that confirms what many have suspected: The cloud space in the SMB sector has yet to be fully exploited. We also find out that Facebook is the principal online market tool for small businesses, while Openbravo offers SMBs the agile ERP.

In November, collaboration specialist eXpresso (news, site) announced that it was no longer offering its services directly, but instead that it was teaming up with IBM (news, site)  and others. There was speculation that it might be some time before anything was heard from them, but here we are only three months later and it has announced that its document collaboration software is now available on LotusLive.

This week, IBM held its Lotusphere get together, offering Big Blue a chance to highlight some of its recent releases -- two of which target the SMB market specifically, Google and Verizon got together to offer SMB bundled apps, HubSpot goes social and CMSWire goes to the White House.

IBM joins the charge to corner the market for Web office productivity suites with the launch of LotusLive Symphony for the cloud, an office suite that offers a social platform enabling simultaneous collaboration on documents in the cloud.

Lotusphere has kicked off in Orlando, Florida today and there's a steady stream of tweets coming in already. Some of the big news is centered on IBM's new Social Business Initiative, packed with mobile, cloud productivity and a new social business framework.

Oh to have been a fly on the wall at Lotusphere 2010 this past week. With what seemed like a never-ending ode to enterprise social computing, IBM (news, site) announced a number of updates and new projects that must have generated lots of excited whispers in the corners.

At this year’s annual Lotusphere conference, IBM (news, site) announced the arrival of LotusLive Labs. The new development combines Big Blue's hosted Lotus services with the resources of IBM Research, yielding fertile ground for business-driven collaboration ideas for the cloud.

Is LotusLive iNotes an audacious bid for cloud-space by IBM (news, site) or a folly in its attempts to challenge Google?

Not to be outdone by the other Enterprise 2.0 vendor announcements during the Enterprise 2.0 Conference this week, IBM (news, site) not only unveils the SaaS version of their social computing solution, LotusLive Connections, but they also take home an award for it.
