Lucid Imagination released its new search-as-a-service platform, LucidWorks Cloud. The cloud-based product reduces the effort and time required for companies to adopt enterprise search.

Today was the second and final day of Lucid Imagination’s annual Lucene love fest, Apache Lucene EuroCon, in Barcelona, Spain. The information exchange, networking and new ideas continued to flow in sessions, halls and over the free wine at lunch.

Open source adoption is rising in the enterprise. However, lack of commercial support and enterprise capabilities like monitoring still holds back some IT organizations. Companies like Lucid Imagination offer a middle ground, and it seems to be working.

While most of North America was fast asleep, Lucid Imagination kicked-off the first sessions its annual European conference, Apache Lucence EuroCon. Hundreds of attendees have converged in Barcelona, Spain to learn from Solr experts, compare notes with peers and maybe find a little fun outside of the search conference hours.

The second day kicked off with a discussion of extracting value from data big and small.

Day one of Lucid Imagination’s (news, site) 2011 Lucene Revolution has concluded. Lucene Revolution is the only conference dedicated to the popular Apache Lucene/Solr projects. This is the second year the conference takes place in the U.S., and interest in attending the open-source enterprise search fest continues to grow -- like the data it interrogates.

Why Lucene 2.9.1 Matters

If you haven't looked at Lucene 2.9, you're missing out on advanced numeric search and real-time search performance improvements. Tied together with Lucene Spatial, these additions can allow mobile users to do searches for, say, an Italian restaurant within five miles of where they currently are, and can get useful results thanks to the GPS in their mobile device and Lucene's quick handling of the information.
