MediaWiki Book Enlightens Wiki Developers

MediaWiki is one of the most powerful open source wiki systems available today. MediaWiki, a book released by O’Reilly about the popular wiki CMS, is prepared to explain how users can take full advantage of it.

Host Color Adds Wiki, Pligg to Hosted Site Offerings

Hoping to elbow the competition out with new media, Host Color has introduced social networking components to its web hosting offerings.

When users purchase a hosting plan, they now have access to wiki tools via MediaWiki, enabling the development and management of online libraries or encyclopedia sites. Information is process and displayed with PHP from MySQL database.

The company has also begun to offer Pligg CMS, which empowers the creation of online bookmarking, knowledge-sharing platforms or reference guides. Pligg CMS and the wiki function are available via Host Color’s PowerTools package.

They have also been included in four out of its five shared hosting packages.

Wikia Launches Free Social Media Platform

This time is was Gil Penchina, CEO of Wikia, announcing that they’d (1) purchased super active social media site ArmChairGM.com, and (2) have released the foundational software that ArmChairGM runs on as a free Wiki and Social Media platform. The free service is being offered through a dedicated Wikia site called www.openserving.com. In his talk today Gil didn’t claim to have a business plan, but rather to be operating under the assumption that if they (the jabbering and photo snapping masses) share, one will come.
