Office 365 and the release of three new business SKUs dominated this week in document management news, with the ripples of the release being felt with complementary solutions launched by MetaVis and KnowledgeLake. In other news, Metalogix announced some new developments around StoragePoint, Office 2013 got a new touchscreen guide and Version One rebranded.

It's inevitable when you get a big release like Microsoft’s upgrade of Office 365 yesterday that a bunch of vendors will following up with tools to complement the release. Some of the services are more significant and useful than others, as is the case with MetaVis, which has just announced that its migration and administration tools will work with the new upgrade.

This year’s SharePoint conference in Las Vegas is the conference that just keeps giving. We’ve covered a lot of releases and interesting news already and there are more to come. Here we look at new SharePoint offerings from BA Insight, MetaVis and Secure Auth.

The 2012 SharePoint conference starts next Monday, and with a week yet to go vendors are already lining up with this year’s announcements. MetaVis, which specializes in SharePoint information management and governance, has announced that it will be previewing Informant for SharePoint.

Information management solutions vendor MetaVis Technologies is making no bones about who is the target demographic for its new Information Manager Power User Edition. The tool is designed to allow SharePoint “power users” to migrate and classify data created and stored in SharePoint (including SharePoint 2013) and Office365.

Well, we finally got a look at SharePoint 2013 and by the looks of it, there’s a lot more looking to do. There’s a certain horrible fascination in this preview given that many enterprises are just getting to grips with SharePoint 2010 and they’re being told they’re going to have to start moving again.

This week, it seems everyone is concerned about finding the right information in the right place. MetaVis makes its migration tools compatible with Office 365 for Government, Recommind adds a SharePoint module for Decisiv Search, DiscoverReady and Equivio extend their partnership, while QlikTech buys Expressor.

AvePoint, a provider of governance and infrastructure management solutions for Microsoft SharePoint, is making its new DocAve File Share Navigator solution generally available. The application enables access to and retrieval of file share content through SharePoint lists without migration.

This week, Symantec offered us a preview of its soon-to-be-released upgraded compliance suite, Varonis offers a way of providing Big Data governance, Nuance gives healthcare document capture with HL7 CDA Standard compliance and Metaviz offers archiving for Office 365.

Heading into Day 2 of the SharePoint conference in Anaheim, Calif., and in terms of new releases migration tools and enterprise collaboration remain the buzzwords among delegates and vendors -- not surprising, really, given the relative youth of SharePoint 2010. Here are some of today’s noteworthy announcements:

With a product that reaches into as many parts of the enterprise as Office 365 potentially does, security was always going to be a problem. MetaVis (news, site) has released Security Manager for SharePoint and Office 365, which enables enterprises to analyze and manage security permissions across multiple SharePoint sites and farms, as well as permissions in Office 365.

After ensuring that everyone could get their content in and out of Office 365, MetaVis has turned its attention back to SharePoint with the release of its new File Manager for SharePoint.

This week we have management of documents in SharePoint from MetaVis, Jive buys OffiSync enabling users to add documents to social networks. There are also two new mobile apps for document management from KnowledgeTree and Byte Squared, and a new ECM ‘lite’ from enprovia.

MetaVis (news, site) has consistently provided tools to support the migration to and management of information for SharePoint. This is no different with the release today of MetaVis Information Manager for SharePoint 2010.

If the reaction of vendors is anything to go by, one of the biggest issues around the recent beta release of Office 365 is how to get your content into the SharePoint component. Metalogix has released a migration solution, and so too has MetaVis (news, site), which is also offering it for free.
