Nokia Plug-Ins Extend Content To Its Phones If anyone was in any doubt that competition in the mobile web market is really beginning to heat-up, then yesterday’s release of three new widgets by Nokia (news, site) that will convert web code and scripts created on PCs into mobile applications will fix that.

Possibly concerned that it might be losing out in the battle to win the hearts -- and pockets -- of a market that is increasingly looking to the mobile web, Nokia is hoping these widgets will attract web developers to extend content to the Nokia platform.

Zoho Mobile Apps Available for More Mobile Devices

zoho-logo-2009.jpg Another sign of the growing interest in mobile applications and of the increasing competition in the market comes this week with the news that Zoho Mobile (news, site) is extending its mobile support to additional devices in addition to its current support of Windows Mobile and the iPhone.

As of this week, fans of Zoho applications, which have been developed on a individual basis for select mobile platforms, will be able to access all Zoho apps from an extended list of platforms.

The new platforms include Android, Blackberry, Symbian and the promise of more - like Palm - in the future.

Microsoft Courts Developers With Mobile App StrategyMicrosoft's Windows Mobile has revealed its strategy to motivate mobile application developers to write applications on the Windows Mobile platform.

Those interested in building and distributing mobile applications through the newly announced Windows Marketplace for Mobile (not yet created), can submit their proposals to Microsoft for inclusion later in 2008. The program will launch in 29 countries and represents Microsoft's counter-offer to Apple's renowned mobile application development process.

Google Slashes Jaiku, Video and Other Services

Google, one of the Internet's darling companies, is finally starting to feel the economic downtown. Changes are headed for a few Google services including Google Notebook, Google Catalogs, Dodgeball, Google Video, Google Mashup Editor and messaging service Jaiku.

While these services have a strong following, they don't fit in with Google's long term strategy and are, therefore, being jettisoned to save on personnel time and upkeep.
