The next wave of European content management vendors hitting the U.S. market is yet again upon us. This time, the ripples are coming from the open source Enterprise CMS vendor Jahia (news, site).

The vendor launched its U.S. mission two years ago, continuing it with today’s formalization of efforts by opening its North American HQ office in Washington, DC. Emmanuel Garcin, Jahia's VP, will serve as the GM for North America.

A little before that, a new R&D and Support office was opened in Montreal, Canada.

In the meantime, Jahia has also been shaking hands with integrators like Quoin, Sapient and Avantia, trying to cater to all its Java-devoted customers in and outside of the Americas.

These are some of the highlights of what Jahia’s been up to lately, in case you need a reminder:

• Extending U.S. reach via its partner Quoin
• Launching GPL Community Edition
• Working on multi-source content management with Content Bus
• Adding more enterprise features to the content integration software

With local as well as other European open source vendors (like Hippo and Nuxeo), it may get pretty crowded in the enterprise CMS U.S. market. Closed-source ECM vendors like IBM, EMC and Open Text are surely paying attention.

• SharePoint 2010, A Business Collaboration Platform. Coming down the pike is the latest version of Microsoft's SharePoint. Here's an early peek.
•  Nuxeo Galaxy: Extending Enterprise CMS to CEVAs. Nuxeo, being quite a busy bee lately, launched their Galaxy Program. No, astronautical adventures are not included.
• Plone Web CMS Update - What's Coming in v4. Following the PLIP process, the Plone 4 Framework Team has polished off their list of what's to be included in this release.
• A Quickie with Microsoft Office 2010. The ol' suite is most certainly a seasoned player, which, so far, has proved its ability to keep up with the changing times.
• Hannon Hill Updates Web CMS to v6.2, Improvements Aplenty. After only a month of testing Cascade Server 6.2 Beta, which was released on June 9th, the official release of v6.2 incorporates all the major changes in the beta version plus a few fixes.
• Mark Logic Launches New Application Services, Updates Core Software. World, meet both MarkLogic Server 4.1 and MarkLogic Application Services 1.0.
• New Software Glues Alfresco Enterprise CMS to Scalable Storage. It was inevitable that tighter integration between the two was on the way, and yesterday they formally announced the launch of the Alfresco2CAStor connector between the two platforms.
• Socialtext Offers Cheap Microblogging  for Your Intranet. Take a look at the new Socialtext Microblogging Appliance. It’s like Twitter for your Intranet, and it’s only a dollar per user, per month.

Nuxeo (news, site), being quite a busy bee lately, launched their Galaxy Program today. No, astronautical adventures are not included. But, if you are an ECM application and/or solution provider, you can take your coding dreams into the Galaxy and package them up into Content-Enabled Vertical Applications (CEVAs).

With a public review of the Content Management Interoperability Specification (CMIS) (news, site) expected to be announced sometime soon, it's definitely time to check in and see what the various player have been up to.

Reminder: CMIS is an OASIS specification. It may well end up as a standard (and we hope that this happens), but it's not there yet. Here's where things stand today.

Let's take another trip to the cloud, shall we? Yes, the adage may be old: to cloud or not to cloud? The open source Enterprise CMS vendor Nuxeo (news, site) solved this poetic dilemma and took its document management product to the cloud.

Open source enterprise content management vendor Alfresco (news, site) really doesn't strike you as a vendor that likes to stay in the shadows. Quite the contrary actually. And the work they have been doing on CMIS -- the Content Management Interoperability Specification -- proves it. Their goal -- and they aren't being subtle about it -- is to the first Enterprise CMS that is fully CMIS compliant.

The world is not enough. Following the recent opening of its U.S. office, the open source ECM vendor Nuxeo (news, site) keeps expanding its global reach with a new partnership announced today.

Kisiwa, the content management solutions firm, signed an exclusive strategic and distribution agreement with Nuxeo to provide sales, professional services and support in Southern and Eastern Europe, Russia, Middle East and Africa.

Open Source solutions seem to be in high demand in this down economy. So what do open source enterprise content management providers do to meet this demand? They add new features and functionality of course. At least that is what KnowledgeTree (news, site) has done.

The latest release of this commercial open source ECM is out today and offers a number of new features including integration with the entire Microsoft Office Suite.

It's official, Nuxeo (news. site) has released Nuxeo 5.2.0 of EP (Enterprise Platform) and DM (Document Management). Nuxeo DM is the new name of the default application, while they still refer to the platform itself as Nuxeo (or Nuxeo EP).

To celebrate the launch, Stefane Fermigier, Founder and now Chairman of Nuxeo created a little movie trailer (we really like the music).

Well, good news! Since we discussed Chemistry with David Nuescheler  -- Day Software's CTO and one of Chemistry committers -- the CMIS implementation project has been officially incubated at the Apache Software Foundation (ASF).

Now, let's do some Chemistry with another major contributor to the project -- open source enterprise CMS vendor, Nuxeo, and its head of R&D Florent Guillaume.

Welcome to the first installment of our new end-of-the-month look at what you can expect from open source CMS projects in the next 30 days. We're just getting started and are counting on you, our community members to help us gather the key facts.

Here's what you can expect in May 2009. To avoid playing favorites, the projects are presented in alphabetical order.

The CMIS specification is still in early stages, but the buzz around it is consistently loud. Most recently, the spec has piqued interest of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF), as some saw a "reference implementation" ingredient missing from the CMIS recipe for success.

Meet Chemistry -- a recently-proposed Apache Incubator Project with a goal of creating a generic, open-source, Java-language implementation of CMIS.

CMSWire had an opportunity to talk to one of Chemistry committers -- Day Software's David Nuescheler -- to get more insight into the project.

We thought it would be here on February 27th, but better a little late than not at all. Nuxeo (news, site) has released version 5.2 of its open source enterprise content management platform. Nuxeo Enterprise Platform (EP) 5.2 is a combination of new technological innovations and features based on customer needs and expectations.

Still in the works, but getting close now, enterprise content management provider Nuxeo has some breaking news on the upcoming release of their version 5.2. In December and then again earlier this month we covered Nuxeo and the changes going on with their enterprise content management system. Now, according to Stefane Fermigier, Nuxeo’s founder and now chairman, Nuxeo 5.2 final will be ready within a month.
