Packt Publishing has announced the winners of its sixth annual open source awards, and some familiar players have taken top spots. Take a look at the results and see if your favorite project won.

It’s that time of year again; Time to vote for your favorite open source project in the Packt Publishing Open Source Awards. If you have a favorite project and want to ensure it gets bragging rights and some hard cold cash, get your vote in before voting ends.

Has it been a year already? It must have because Packt Publishing (news, site)  is launching its annual Open Source Awards, formerly the Open Source CMS Awards, designed to recognize and support promising open source projects . This year’s awards will be very similar to the awards in previous years, but there are a few changes.

Packt Publishing (news, site) announced that it has donated over US$ 300,000 to open source projects. The technical book publisher has provided financial support to open source projects since 2004, long before open source gained its current favored position in the enterprise.

Packt Publishing (news, site) has announced the winners for the final categories of the 2010 Open Source Awards. This year, the awards included six categories and offered US$ 24,000 in prizes. Judges selected jQuery as winner of the Open Source JavaScript Library category, CMS Made Simple (news, site) for the Open Source Content Management System category and WordPress (news, site) for the Hall of Fame CMS category.

Packt Publishing (news, site) has released the names of the next set of winners in its annual Open Source Awards. This round includes the winner of the Open Source E-Commerce Applications category and the Open Source Graphics Software category. Packt will announce winners for the remaining three categories later this week.

Packt, UK publishers of technical books, has begun announcing the winners of the 2010 Open Source Awards, a five-year-old event held online annually by Packt Publishing (news, site) to recognize and reward Open Source projects. Each day this week, Packt will announce a new category; today they disclosed the winner of the Most Promising Open Source Project.

After a long nomination process, Packt has announced the list of finalists for its Open Source Awards.

In previous years there has only been one award and one prize. This year saw the inclusion of four new categories.
