Customer engagement centers, contact centers, call centers. Whatever your organization calls them, there are requirements for a successful one. According to Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for customer engagement centers these include customer service and support problem management, trouble ticketing, knowledge solutions, content management, advanced desktop search, decision support based on real-time analytics, engagement possibilities through social media and support for the mobile customer, among many others.

My goodness, do we ever hope not.
It’s the same set of challenges for companies creating a social media presence. Simply attracting fans is one thing, but engaging them and determining your true brand influencers and those who interact with your brand are the real goals here.

Gartner didn't add or drop too many names from the 2013 MQ for Web Content Management, especially at the top. Adobe, SDL, Sitecore, Oracle, HP and OpenText all stayed in the Leaders quadrant, with IBM and Microsoft sitting in the Challengers' spot.

If the majority of the US$ 4.7 billion spent on Sales Force Automation (SFA) software last year was mainly spent on sales applications, the market was characterized by the continued move to SaaS models by enterprises looking for economy and agility. Mobility also played a part, as those working directly with enterprise clients looked for smartphone and tablet support.

Our first look at Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for CRM Customer Engagement Centers (CEM) showed a market littered with obsolete business applications. However, the three vendors in the Leader’s Quadrant -- Oracle RightNow Cloud Services, Pegasystems and Salesforce -- appear to be bucking that trend.

Even a brief look at Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for the CRM Customer Engagement Centers (CEC) shows that this is a technology space that is in trouble. Led by Oracle RightNow Cloud Services, Pegasystems and Salesforce, Gartner says that the established business applications for CEC are obsolete and restricted by inflexible configuration rules.
