Enterprise content management is a 2.7 billion dollar industry with just a hand full of vendors competing for market share. Documentum was once the master of the content management space, the de facto product for most companies looking to automate their processes and get control over unstructured data. After the dot-com bust, Documentum’s presence wavered and was eventually purchased by EMC. EMC CEO Joe Tucci’s recently announced on an EMC’s earnings call that the Information Intelligence Group at ECM was down 5%. Oracle’s, on the other hand, is expecting to show an impressive 20% growth. And it has come up with a plan it thinks will help Documentum customers.

If the release of an iPad app that gives users access to Big Data analytics and Cognos was interesting in the mobile space, the announcement that IBM is making Info Sphere BigInsights on SmartCloud should have the effect of shaking up the big data market a little bit.

In a hands-on, sneak peek of Oracle’s upcoming Big Data Appliance due to ship Q1 2012, the company is making available for download today its Oracle NoSQL Database with Enterprise Grade support that was announced in early October.
The technology represents a shift for Oracle. We’re talking “massive amounts of data” including data maintained by social networks, and other dynamic schemas including web log, plus sensor and smart meter data and data gathered for personalization.

If you thought Oracle CEO Larry Ellison's announcement of the Oracle Public Cloud and general Salesforce.com bashing was as good as it got yesterday, you're in for a surprise. At the end of the keynote he introduced the Oracle Social Network, an unexpected and brand spankin' new platform that's integrated with Fusion applications. And guess what! It looks nothing like Facebook.

It’s a busy week everywhere, with Oracle and SharePoint’s annual conference. And there’s been a lot of document management too. Xerox has upgraded DocuShare, Oracle’s E-Business Suite has new invoice security, Autonomy has upgraded WorkSite, there’s mobile document management for iPad from NewSoft, while Colligo and NewsGator have teamed up for SharePoint functionality.

Oracle’s OpenWorld has finally kicked off with the customary keynote from CEO Larry Ellison. Leaving aside the fact that many are saying this was his worst keynote ever, for those in enterprise computing the launch of the Exalytics analytics appliance is the one most will be watching.
