SharePoint, This Old House Style - Interior Design, Decorating

SharePoint, This Old House Style - Interior Design, DecoratingWelcome back! This blog series is devoted to pointing out some of the key enhancements that SharePoint picked up in the last 10 years.

If you’re still treating SharePoint like the web based file share it was in 2003, it's time for a reappraisal.

6 Predictions for SharePoint, Office 365 in 2014

It's been an interesting year for SharePoint. We've started to see steady adoption of SharePoint 2013, as well as continued usage of SharePoint 2010 and some older versions. And Microsoft’s shift to focus on the cloud and Office 365 left many guessing about the future of the on premises version of SharePoint.

Whatever comes in 2014, I don’t believe SharePoint is going anywhere. But I do think we’ll see more changes.

Social Fears and Anxiety in the Enterprise

Social Fears and Anxiety in the EnterpriseIn my work as a consultant I frequently come across organizations that appear terrified of allowing or enabling social features in the enterprise.  It doesn't matter if it's SharePoint’s newsfeed, MySites, Yammer or other social tools -- the thought of introducing these tools internally meets with resistance.

SharePoint Conference 2014 is just a few months away. The Microsoft-sponsored event runs March 3 through 6 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. Microsoft is firming up the roster of keynote speakers and setting the agendas for about 200 sessions on the increasingly integrated worlds of SharePoint, Yammer, Office, Office 365 and more.

Marketed as an event to help "connect, reimagine and transform," there will be some 24 inclusive tracks for the four major audiences of IT professionals, developers, executives and power users.

'Have it Your Way' SharePoint: Two Paths, Many Options

Social business,SharePointMany of the conversations I've had over the last year were filled with questions and concerns about the future of SharePoint and what the addition of Office 365 would bring to the mix. Microsoft answered some of these questions late last week and provided some insight into its plans going forward. With this information, organizations can breathe a little easier and plan a little better for the future.

Enabling Customization Increases SharePoint User Adoption

Enabling business users to customize SharePoint is good for companies. If that seems unlikely, a Dimensional Research report commissioned by Dell supports this claim. According to the report, almost all of those surveyed (98 percent) said customization by business users is desirable.

The Missing Link in SharePoint Site Usability

The topic of SharePoint site usability never grows old. With every new version of SharePoint that comes out, Microsoft has touted that it is extremely intuitive and easy to use, and judging from the number of licenses sold, many organizations seem to have bought into this myth. What they are not told is what it actually takes to make SharePoint sites user-friendly.

SharePoint 2013, This Old House Style - Moving In and Living Together

Social Business, SharePoint 2013, This Old House Style - Moving In and Living Together"Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.” -- Yogi Berra

In many ways, this sums up SharePoint’s problem in its second decade -- we take it for granted.
