Blogit for the iPhone

Micro-blogging is getting a bit of a lift today as Six Apart announces a new application – well, new to the iPhone at least. Six Apart’s BlogIt application for Facebook is now available for the Apple iPhone. Is this just the beginning of a long line of applications that will propel us forever into the world of twitter-dom?

Six Apart, Apperceptive, Six Apart Media

Six Apart has just announced the creation of Six Apart Media and Six Apart Services divisions. The real news here is the Media bit. The Media operation is an advertising network -- not unlike Federated Media -- that will open up to participation from some percentage of the blogosphere, regardless of what technology the typing monkeys are using. As part of the news, 6A have nabbed NYC-based consultancy, Apperceptive. The acquisition forms the basis of Six Apart Services, which is really not about traditional consulting services, rather it's about helping bloggers monetize and grow their properties, while 6A Media gets a long term cut.

Hey, hey, look what they've done...it's Vox flipped inside out.

blog_it.jpg San Francisco-based Six Apart -- makers of Movable Type, sellers of Live Journal -- have just unwrapped a lovely new piece of technology. Some call it blog fire-hosing, but we'll go with rather heavier metaphors and say their new Blog It FaceBook app is double barrel publishing fun. It's buckshot blogging. It's strafing the blogosphere. It's like going hunting with Cheney -- you know, pull the trigger once and you get two birds and all your friends, right in the face.

Movable Type 4.1 Open Source Stable

It's official, Moveable Type Open Source (MTOS) 4.1 Stable has been released to the market.

We've been keeping you up to date about MTOS since we heard about it in August. In December we gave you an overview of the new open source version.

It was just last week that MT4.1 RC1 was released. So the guys and gals over at Six Apart are moving fast.

Movable Type 4 Publishing Platform released

It's official. Movable Type v4.1 has taken another definitive step toward production. This means the real deal is not far away. There are a few changes from the beta release, but for the most part -- she's looking fit.

Movable Type 4 Publishing Platform

There are now three different versions of the Movable Type Publishing Platform: Commercial, Open Source and Personal. And with the newest version of Movable Type in Beta, release v4.1, there's and interesting change of orientation deep down in the product's core.

LiveJournal Social Media Platform

CMSWire had a chance to speak with the Russian media company who just acquired LiveJournal from San Francisco-based Six Apart.

Edward Shenderovich is the Director of Strategy for Moscow-based SUP (pronounced "soup" in English). Edward comes from a recent history with Web CMS vendor Quantum Art, and from social networking project Dandelife.

Today he walks through the recent history of the SUP / Six Apart partnership, the future of LiveJournal, and discusses some of the controversy which has been bubbling in the blogosphere ever since SUP first partnered with Six Apart.

LiveJournal Blogging Platform

Six Apart has sold LiveJournal to Russian media group SUP for an undisclosed sum. SUP has established a U.S.-based company, LiveJournal Inc., which will manage the worldwide operations of the popular blogging and social networking brand.

Movable Type 4 Community Solution

Six Apart told CMSWire a couple of weeks ago that blogging had evolved, and now we know what they meant.

The creators of the MovableType and TypePad blogging platforms today release Movable Type Community Solution (MTCS), a commercial product which enables the building of social media communities.

Having done its bit to kick-start the blogging revolution with the creation of Movable Type 1.0 back in 2001, 6A's new 'MySpace in a Box' solution aims to revolutionize the blogosphere once more by offering everyone the ability to create their own social networking site.

Movable Type 4 vs ExpressionEngineSome rivalries run deep: Army vs. Navy, Mac vs. PC, and dogs vs. frisbees. With the release of Moveable Type 4 and the near-simultaneous release of ExpressionEngine v1.6, it's time to to examine this perhaps less well-known rivalry.

boing_boing_logo.png

Boing Boing, one of the more influential blogs out there, has just launched on Movable Type 4.

And boy does it look cool. The site is not only faster and easier on the eyes; it also boasts a new design by Studio Sans Nom and a rekindled comments feature.

There's also a new personal technology blog which you probably want to check out if you want to be all opinionated about the latest and greatest in front of all your friends -- even if you cannot have said latest and greatest.

Way to hit the ground running. Cheers to Boing Boing and Six Apart (Movable Type's parent company)!

Movable Type Logo

Of all the things to love about the release of the newest version of Movable Type, the built-in search engine rarely makes the list. Fortunately for the MT user, the popular and aptly named PHP plugin for Movable Type - Fast Search - has just been updated to support MT 4.

Movable Type 4 Publishing Platform

After much pomp, circumstance and plenty of clean-up, Six Apart today releases the commercial version of Movable Type 4.

Characterized as "the largest release in the product's history" by EVP and General Manager Chris Alden of Six Apart's professional division, MT4 is the result of collaboration and input from enterprise customers, pro bloggers and the ever opinionated developer community. The latter group has been taking healthy bites out of beta for some time.

Most notably, the v4 release marks Movable Type's departure from the "blogging" pigeonhole. The product is now on its way to becoming a fully fledged Web content management system and community platform.
