Socialtext has released the latest version of its wiki platform — Socialtext 3.0 — that will allow users to better manage information and engage in more conversations and connections in an enterprise environment. Socialtext Dashboard and Socialtext People are the highlights of this release.

As we previously covered, wiki provider Socialtext, is expanding their offerings with two additions to their service, “Socialtext Dashboard” and Socialtext People”.

CMSWire had the opportunity to discuss these two recent additions with Chairman and President of Socialtext, Ross Mayfield.

Spend a little bit of time listening to what your customers actually need and you might get some really good, saleable ideas for new features and services offerings for your product. At least that’s what Socialtext did, announcing the newest version of their business social software along with four new service solutions.

It’s a season of change at Palo Alto-based wiki startup Socialtext.

The company has just announced its appointment of Eugene Lee as Chief Executive Officer and member of its board. It has also stated that it has closed a Series C funding round of US$ 9.5 million.

The Open Source Initiative has officially approved a pair of shared source licenses Microsoft recently submitted. This means the licenses in question are officially open source.

For those going, “Huh?” on account of the endless drama going down between Microsoft and the open source community, the OSI addresses that in a statement:

“In spite of recent negative interactions between Microsoft and the open source community, the spirit of the dialog was constructive and we hope that carries forward to a constructive outcome as well.”

The OSI acts as a kind of gatekeeper for Open Source Definition and its license review process. In July, the collective officially approved Socialtext’s Common Public Attribution License after nine months.

Formal evaluation of Microsoft Public License (Ms-PL) and Microsoft Reciprocal License (Ms-RL) began in August.

Socialtext has just released a plugin that supports Movable Type 4. It enables users to post on both MT4 and the Socialtext wiki simultaneously — tags included.

After months of grueling work and legal battles, the Open Source Initiative (OSI) has officially approved the Common Public Attribution License (CPAL) originally submitted by Socialtext nine months ago. With CPAL on the OSI’s approved list of open source licenses, Socialtext can now carry the OSI-certified label and proudly call itself open source.
