One of the immediate values SharePoint can deliver to an organization is the ability to address project management challenges, such as inefficient communication among stakeholders, poor information management practices and undefined project collaboration standards that compromises project success.

I had the privilege of presenting at the SharePoint Conference 2009 with Julie Auletta and Daisy Anand of Bamboo Solutions on the topic of “The Future of SharePoint Project Management”. The changes coming with SharePoint 2010 combined with the advancement of desktop tools like Microsoft Project are ushering in a new era of SharePoint project management.

The SharePoint Las Vegas conference is serious business. There have been and will be some serious announcements made over the course of it. However, there has been and will be announcements that just make you ask “How cool is that?!”

One of those is the beta launch of Capturx Forms for SharePoint from Adapx that will make automatic data ingestion into SharePoint 2010 as simple as signing you name. That’s because this is exactly what it does. It enables users to upload information into SharePoint as it is (manually) written using an electronic pen, via Bluetooth and a cell phone.

There are a lot of vendor announcements coming out of the SharePoint Conference on a daily basis. Some of these concern enhancements to SharePoint 2007 solutions. Many, are about announcing support for SharePoint 2010.

We've compiled a list of these vendors that we have seen to date, read on to learn what they are doing.

Arguably one of the most crucial aspects of SharePoint 2010 is the ability to upgrade to it. It will no doubt be the first focus of firms heavily entrenched in SharePoint.

Sean Livingston, the upgrade program manager at Microsoft, began the SharePoint Conference 2009 session on upgrading to SharePoint 2010 by stressing that  “..this is only the beginning..." for Microsoft’s plans to help companies upgrade to the new release.

This release will focus on in-place upgrades and database attached upgrades -- including content databases, profile service databases and project service databases.

The SharePoint Conference 2009 is now in full swing and things are getting down to business with break out sessions on all things SharePoint 2010.
