Microsoft, the commercial software behemoth from Redmond, Washington, continues to dip its toes into the open source pool. Microsoft's Open Source Technology Center (OSTC) is home to the software vendor's relationships with a few open source products such as MySQL and SugarCRM. The OSTC has been hard at work lately -- especially, in the web application space.

After releasing their own open source CMS and making it easy to install open source applications on Windows Server, what else has Redmond been up to?

New Apatar Connector was recently released to aid those struggling with integration of open source suite SugarCRM with third-party applications, databases, flat files, other CRM/ERP applications and Web 2.0 destinations.

We know MindTouch for their open-source social enterprise collaboration platform Kilen Woods — the latest release just coming out late July. Now, they have come out with a new solution Deki for CRM, partnering with SnapLogic, a SaaS integration company.

MindTouch claims their new offering eases some of the issues related to using CRM applications by bringing better collaboration and additional intelligence.

Now open source software implementation can be as simple as unwrapping a pretty brown package tied up in string. (And that is one of our favourite things.)
