There have been a number of announcements in the GRC space in recent weeks, including the acquisition of Digital Reef by TransPerfect. Varonis has also upgraded DatAdvantage, while Guidance has upgraded its e-Discovery product. There is also a new resource for e-Discovery documentation.

This week, the web was buzzing with rumors about an iPad version of Office, which Microsoft quickly denied, Alfresco and Jive release a connector for socialized content, Treeno released v4.0 of its enterprise content management system, Varonis joins McAfee partner program, while Cintas and ScanMd get together for medical documents.

This week, Symantec offered us a preview of its soon-to-be-released upgraded compliance suite, Varonis offers a way of providing Big Data governance, Nuance gives healthcare document capture with HL7 CDA Standard compliance and Metaviz offers archiving for Office 365.

It’s been a busy week in GRC. OpenText has released new application governance and archiving software, StoredIQ offers risk assessments of SharePoint environments, EMC and eMag partner to offer e-Discovery, and there’s research from Varonis on metadata and GFI on email archiving.

GRC this week is dominated by compliance and risk and moves in the compliance market, including the acquisition of e-Discovery vendor PSS by IBM. Oracle has also been busy looking at risk and data management, while Varonis offers Exchange audit and monitoring.

Varonis (news, site)  has been dealing with unstructured data for a long time, so the extension of its DatAdvantage software to Microsoft Exchange is a logical move given the spread of Exchange deployments globally and the growing evidence that email management is still being neglected across most enterprises.

Varonis has launched a new version of its DatAdvantage solution, which extends its data governance capabilities to unstructured data in UNIX environments. DatAdvantage 3.5 provides visibility to and enables auditing for data held in UNIX repositories, ensuring that such data is accessible for appropriate business activities only.

The move marks a significant evolution of the DatAdvantage product, which hitherto could only be applied to Windows environments. Users can now manage unstructured data from both environments from a single interface. The technology provides visibility for any UNIX file server, gathers user data from NIS, LDAP and local machine accounts, and grabs event data from Network Appliance filers and Sun Solaris v8, v9, and v10 file servers.
