 Skype and the like saw a bit trouble this week with the announcement of a new Web-conferencing package for SMBs. WebEx 8 offers online meetings for US$ 19 per month, enabling Cisco (news, site) to better compete for business among smaller companies.

Naturally, as the increasingly remote nature of our interactions becomes more apparent, the number of vehicles that enable it grows exponentially. One such tool is video conferencing, and the latest to add it to their bucket of desktop communication solutions is TeamViewer GmbH (news, site).

Google recently announced a much-anticipated addition to the Google Talk service. In addition to being able to sent text instant messages from within the Google Mail system, users can now conduct voice and video chats — all from within the browser.

After users download a Google-provided plugin, they will see “Video and More” in the conventional chat window. Other IM systems, such as MSN Messenger and Yahoo! Chat, have had voice/video capabilities, but Google just added the feature. However, is this product a “Skype killer” like some are saying?
