For their V8 release, the Austin, Texas-based WCM firm Vignette (news, site) has focused on WebDAV support in an effort to take some off the load of IT departments, and put more control in the hands of end business users. The new release also incorporates AJAX portlets designed to increase access to rich media and social networking apps.

Social media and content management (ECM and WCM) is a hot topic as of late. Vignette (news, site) played in as well and released the updated Vignette Community Applications 7.1.

This social media solution targets organizations looking to engage with internet audiences and spice up their online presences with communities, social interaction and collaborative communication.

Vignette proudly announced that Gartner has positioned the company in the Leaders Quadrant in its Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portal Products 2008 report.

Along with highlighting Vignette’s strengths as a Horizontal Portal vendor, the researchers at Gartner also give a few words of caution.
