Optimizely Claims 'Breakthrough' in Online Testing Platform

Optimizely, a website optimization platform, just released what company execs describe as an innovative capability that breaks from traditional statistical methods.

The platform -- Stats Engine -- adds to the company’s experience optimization platform by delivering test results that are "always valid" and "freed from the limitations of traditional statistical analysis," officials at the San Francisco-based provider boasted. Pete Koomen, co-founder of Optimizely, said Stats Engine "represents a breakthrough in the world of online testing."

Developed in collaboration with statisticians at Stanford University, company officials said Stats Engine relies on innovative approaches in statistical analysis. Combined with the company's own algorithms, it allows customers to interpret and act on data quicker "and more confidently than ever before," the company noted.

Stats Engine "propels statistical analysis into the Internet age," a company spokesperson told CMSWire.

Who's got the best web analytics software?

Forrester Research stands by these guys in its Wave for web analytics released in May. Forrester's not the only one ranking analytics. Or ranking anything, as we just learned this week with Gleanster Research.

The latest to flex its ranking muscles is TrustRadius, an Austin, Texas-based forum for professionals to share "candid insights about business software."

And TrustRadius feels it has 230 good reasons for being a trusted source for analytics rankings --  the 230 reviews by analytics software users that ultimately led to the crowdsourcing firm's TrustMaps™ for Digital Analytics software.

"It's performed by market segment -- company size -- others are one size fits all," Vinay Bhagat, CEO of TrustRadius, told CMSWire when asked what makes his company's ranking style unique. "It's based upon real user information vs. a survey of vendors, a typical analyst approach. Analysts generally do a very poor job of collecting real user feedback. Their surveys are long feature checklists, and are often driven by historical relationships with vendors."

Why These Six Web Analytics Providers Lead the Pack

Web analytics providers that offer predictive analytics, support for mobile applications, reach of partner programs and the ability to support customer implementation rank among the best, according to Forrester Research.

Forrester named the best of the best in this space in a Wave report released this week

Adobe, AT Internet, IBM and Webtrends lead the pack with strong web analytics offerings and strategies for the enterprise, according to the Forrester Wave for web analytics.

Google is a “strong performer” that offers a premium product that’s gaining support for easy-to-use features.

SAS Institute is a “contender,” offering a customer-intelligence-based alternative.

5 Questions for New Webtrends CEO Joe Davis

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Joe Davis NS.jpg

Joe Davis, a web analytics pioneer best known for his work at Coremetrics, has taken over as CEO of his one-time competitor, Webtrends, with the goal of boosting revenue growth.

It's a task that contributed to the demise of former CEO Alex Yoder five months ago. That's when Yoder was replaced after five years in the corner office by board member David Mitchell, operating partner at Francisco Ventures, which controls the privately owned company. Yesterday's announcement caught many by surprise because the company gave no public indication Mitchell was serving on an interim basis.

Davis sold Coremetrics to IBM in 2010, and has been out of the analytics business while the big data revolution exploded over the past few years. Now he's back in the middle of it, hoping to do better than Yoder, who came to Webtrends with a sales background 12 years earlier and rose to the ranks to chief executive.

Webtrends Shuffles CEOs for Second Time in 5 Months

Webtrends named analytics industry veteran Joe Davis as CEO today, marking its second change in leadership after longtime CEO Alex Yoder left suddenly in September.

Davis, who served as CEO of rival Coremetrics before that company's acquisition by IBM, takes over the job from David Mitchell, an operating partner at the private equity firm Francisco Partners and a member of the Webtrends board.
