Week in Review: Rise of the Cloud, Continued Popularity of Social in the Enterprise

It's a wrap, the weekend is here. Here's what you might've missed this week on CMSWire.

According to Gartner, cloud computing is hot (again), as it tops Gartner's 2011 CIO Agenda. Other hot ticket items on the list of technical priorities include virtualization and mobile technologies. The Gartner survey suggests that IT will be changing dramatically over the next few years, driven by technology that was recently considered “too cutting” edge for wide-spread adoption.

In other news, social is still an important focus as well -- be it social content management in Enterprise CMS or social commerce on top of collaboration tools.

Week in Review: MSFT Toying with Open Source WCM, How to Manage CMS Vendor 'Beauty Parades'

Greetings! Time to catch up and see what you might've missed this week in in the world of Web CMS, Enterprise CMS and related technologies.

Microsoft and open source in the same sentence? Often, that sentence involves world domination remarks and thwarting of OSS by MSFT. But lately, the Redmond kingdom has been toying with open source WCM with the release of WebMatrix and Orchard, a .NET open source web content management system.

Ever been involved in a CMS selection process? Then Martin White's take on CMS vendor "beauty parades" might ring a bell. It's a good list to refer to for management of your future CMS vendor presentations as well.

Week in Review: Drupal 7 Arrives, JCR Spurs Discussions

The first week of 2011 has zoomed by. One of the major events in our little world of Web CMS, Enterprise CMS and related technologies was the arrival of Drupal 7. The open source CMS got a whole new core, but the myriad of modules and add-ons (what Drupal is known for) are still alpha years behind.

The Java Content Repository's (JCR) health has been evaluated, re-evaluated and widely discussed. Fanboys and critics weighed in. The verdict? JCR may not be as dead as it appears in the rear-view mirror.

Week in Review: Apache Quits JCP, Experts Predict 2011

With wishes of a good weekend to all of you in the world of Web CMS, Enterprise CMS and related technologies, we wrap up yet another week in the pre-holiday countdown.

Holiday spirit unadorned, the Apache vs. JCP antagonism has brewed to the final drop. While some refer to Apache's leaving the JCP as the end of an era for open Java development, folks in the content management industry seem to be latently content. The JCP is not deader than it was before, some Javaologists say. Oracle, perhaps trying not to be the Grinch who stole Java, has asked the Apache Software Foundation to reconsider its decision to quit.

In the meantime, our resident experts have been dishing on the 2010 trends and gazing into the crystal ball trying to see what 2011 will bring for the content management industry.

Week in Review: How Day+Adobe May Fit Together, Autonomy Preps for an Acquisition

I am object-oriented
And I am ready to browse

(Soundtrack for this week: for JavaZone - Lady Java)

Greetings and wishes of a good weekend! Here's my weekly round-up of what's been shaking in Web CMS, Enterprise CMS and related technologies.

Although nothing is official until the deal is expected to close on October 28, we have some insights into how Adobe sees Day CQ5 Web CMS and CRX fitting into their Customer Experience Management (CEM) vision and joint product roadmap. Two key concepts: apps as content and CEM.

Autonomy announced Q3 results. There's money to spend, and there will be an acquisition on the horizon. CEO Mike Lynch told Bloomberg news service that it would be something out of the “standard Autonomy playbook” and similar to previous acquisitions.

Our site and content optimization theme continues. In New York, we popped into the Smart Content conference this week. Check out the coverage.

It's a beautiful day
Don't let it get away

(Soundtrack for this week: U2 - It's a Beautiful Day)

Greetings and wishes of a good weekend! Here's my weekly roll-up of what's been shaking in Web CMS, Enterprise CMS and related technologies.

Here at CMSWire, we continued to delve into the matters of site and content optimization. Some of the topics we discussed include the importance of mobile strategy, usability vs. user experience and best practices for content optimization.

We also launched a poll "Do You Have the Knowledge and Tools to Optimize Your Website?" Have your say.

In Chicago, Day Software kicked off the first leg of their Day Ignite tour. Good Saturday to you all. En route from Amsterdam to New York, I bring you the latest news from the worlds of Web CMS, Enterprise CMS and related technologies.

Week in Review: Is Oracle Missing the Point of Agility?

With stroopwaffels in one hand and jenever in the other, I say hello from Amsterdam. OK, OK, jenever was actually part of last night, but wasn't the only constituent of what made the inaugural #CMSGeekUpAMS a big success. It helped, of course, that we only ever so slightly argued about whether WordPress is a real CMS.

For more geekery, but with a mobile and social twist to it, I invite you to meet at the upcoming HartmanEVENT 2010 - Social Media & Mobile Usability.

And now, let's have a look at the news that zoomed by this week on the highway of content management and related tech, starting with a thought piece on Oracle's big box, big bucks and seemingly very little agility.
