CNG-SAFE Offers Enhanced Security via Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2

cng_logo_2009.png Document management software developer Cabinet NG (news, site) continues to develop v6.0, this time with the release of v6.2.1.241, which is specifically designed to work with Windows 7/Windows Server 8 R2 and improve its user interface.

The company says the benefits of this minor upgrade to users is that it will give them new and intuitive user interfaces, improved security and reliability features, as well as a new tools to keep them connected to data stored on the Web.

Already a very well-endowed document management system, Cabinet NG says the upgrade required very few changes to the existing system.

However, what is worth noting here is that the company says the changes will serve as a new base level for future enhancements and enable CNG-SAFE to keep in step with developments in Microsoft technology.

The other upgrade with this minor version is improvement to the interface, although the company hasn’t said exactly what shape those improvements have taken.

In this respect you might recall that in September, CNG was voted a ‘Top 20’ CRN-tested SMB product with the management consoles described as easy to navigate but not as “flashy”, or graphically appealing as some. Cheeky!

Could it be that Cabinet NG in a pique of vanity went out and upgraded CNG-SAFE interfaces while they were upgrading it for Windows 7? This latest version is available now.

Installing SharePoint 2010 on Windows 7

SP2010_logo_2009.jpg One of the best kept secrets from Microsoft regarding SharePoint 2010 (news, site) was something that SharePoint developers around the world were for crying for: the ability to run SharePoint on a desktop environment and not a VM.

You can imagine the cheers that went up through the crowd of over 7,000 at the SharePoint conference last week when they were told they can run SharePoint 2010 environments on both Windows 7 and Windows Vista SP1.

The install works for both SharePoint Foundation -- formerly WSS -- and SharePoint Server.

Now keep in mind this is just a standalone environment for developers, it's not meant for production at all. And, it does still require that you have a 64 bit operating system.

There are some prerequisites for running an install on Windows Vista and be sure to check out the RAM and space requirements for both Foundation and SharePoint Server.

We know you don't have the beta yet, at least most of us don't, but here's the MSDN article explaining the installation process.

Kentico Web CMS Supports Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2

Kentico Supports Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2The last little while Kentico (news, site) seems to have been focused on adding social networking capabilities to their Web Content Management System. But apparently that's not the only thing they have been working on.

Yes, it's true, the latest version of Kentico does marry social networking and web content management, but the company has been working on the more technical aspects of its solution.

Today, they announce that Kentico now supports both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. In fact, versions 4.0 and up will run on these platforms -- good news for those who may be looking at upgrading the backend, but not yet the solutions that run on them.

Martin Hejtmanek, CTO at Kentico Software says, “Making our application compatible with Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 helps us offer our customers compelling benefits, including improved security and reliability features, tools to keep them connected to data stored on the Web and sophisticated management feature".

While we bask in the enjoyment that Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 might bring us, we also sit back and patiently wait to see if all the new changes expected for version 4.1, slated for August, will also behave on these platforms.
