Probably the most talked about Service Pack in history is on the horizon, maybe as soon as this week: SP1 for WSS 3.0 and SharePoint (MOSS) Server 2007.

It’s what SharePoint Server 2007 and SharePoint Services 3.0 administrators, architects and developers have been anxiously anticipating. And it’s jam-packed with goodies.

Well okay, not jam-packed…

UK-based Jadu is positioning its latest release, Jadu Blogs for Jadu 1.7 CMS, as something, if not bigger than blog platforms like WordPress and Movable Type, then in a league all its own. A league we foolishly didn’t even consider. A league in which blogging is a reason, in and of itself, to start thinking CMS.

To leave no room for imagination, Jadu itself calls its Blogs offering “Blog Content Management.” Well, that’s something we can run away with.

Utilizing a web content management platform that runs off of a flat file structure (e.g. doesn’t require a relational database back-end) is an alluring thought. Mostly to us cheap baskets who would rather not pay premium money to hosting providers for database usage.

It’s all about Gilbane this week, of course. The latest news from the Boston conference relates to Hot Banana’s Web CMS, which topped the poll for Overall Ease of Use in Gilbane’s “Survey on Web Content Management User Experience.”

Like some of you, I’d never heard of Orato.com before. I consider myself hip to the jive on sites that cater to the citizen journalist so when I received press about Orato.com and all that it claimed to be, I was intrigued.

Orato, Latin for “I speak,” touts itself as an outlet and resource for the citizen journalist. No longer do mere mortals need to wait for those in the news media to report to us; we have taken the pen (or laptop, or camera phone) in our own hands and fought back.

“On Orato.com,” it is said, “the subject owns the story.” And the story isn’t just limited to politics, as other citizen journalism sites are. Orato covers all the juicy tidbits of health, popular culture and sex … oh yeah, and current events, too.

British Web content management provider Mediasurface have announced the integration of their Morello Web CMS solution with WoodWing’s Smart Newspapers system.

The result is calculated to provide newspaper publishers, particularly, with an enterprise-wide solution to the industry-specific challenges of enabling content management across off-line and on-line channels using a single user interface.

Sponsored by archiving software vendor Fortiva, the study reports that businesses with more than 1,000 employees are averaging 37 legal discovery requests a year, 37 business requests, 25 audit requests, and more than 100 requests per year from end users.

There have been a number of posts recently regarding the validity and role of wikis as an information delivery vehicle in a corporate setting. Part of the concern is the unregulated nature of how a wiki works. Because a public wiki includes user generated content, there is very little control over what gets posted by whom, when and how.
