Collaborating on documents has never been easy. Even if you’re working from a desktop with people in the same room there’s bound to be issues, so you can only imagine what it’s like trying to share and edit documents from a mobile device while on the go. Workshare is trying to improve this experience with a new app that aims to offer document comparison for mobile devices.

Document collaboration software provider, Workshare, is joining the enterprise social network game with their acquisition of IdeaPlane.

A variety of IT vendors debuted add-on solutions that bring functionality including mobile, cloud and collaboration features to SharePoint at last week’s SharePoint Conference held in Las Vegas, NV. Solution providers making noteworthy announcements included Workshare, Colligo, Nintex and Axceler.

Every week there seems to be a new cloud-based file sharing option launching.  At some point, as the market matures some vendors will take a bow and others will join forces to create new, more comprehensive offerings. SkyDox and Workshare must have gotten the memo early. The pair announced today that they are joining forces.

A busy week in the document management space. The big event this week was the announcement by Cisco that it will buy Versly, while QuickOffice is still upgrading TouchPad capabilities. Adobe offers PDF functionality for iPad, and Work upgraded its Office 365 offering. DocSTAR and Kyocera integrated for better cloud document management.

Document collaboration software provider Workshare (news, site) has released Workshare Compare 7, its PDF and document comparison solution.

It may be the holiday season, but there’s still activity in the document management software space. This week Nuance connects scanning to over 20 different clouds, Workshare upgrades its document exchange abilities, Kofax took a look at document capture in the enterprise, while AnyDocs got healthy. We also took a look at what exactly business process management is.

This week, Forrester answers one of the questions we have been looking at for some time, notably, whether enterprises are taking to MS Office alternatives; Cabinet NG releases v7.0 of CNG-SAFE; Workshare releases an upgrade to its collaboration solution Workshare Compare; eGistics adds to its cloud storage capabilities and CloudMagic searches Gmail and Google Docs.

One of the big stories this year in the document and document management software space is going to be office suites in the cloud. This week alone there have been at least three developments in this area, from Microsoft, IBM and Google. In the document collaboration space, Workshare document comparison software now integrates with Open Text’s eDocs.

Since the launch of Microsoft SharePoint 2010 last May, many companies have released complementary products that extend it or make it easier to use. This week, document collaboration software vendor Workshare (news, site) released Point, which enables users find and file SharePoint 2010 content from inside Microsoft Office applications.

Enterprises in the Asia Pacific region are eager to adopt cloud-based services, according to recent studies. With this in mind, service providers are gaining ground in the region by signing up new clients through collaboration and networking with local organizations. Document collaboration service provider Workshare (news, site) is one such SaaS provider that has recently announced expanding into the Asia-Pacific region starting with China.

It’s a mixed bag of document management news this week. IBM’s Quickr document collaboration abilities have been extended by DOCVA, Adeptol upgrades its document viewer and Xerox doesn’t look like it’s going to neglect traditional print services despite recent rebranding efforts as a document management heavy weight.

It's just about the end of August and time for the gears to shift up one. This week, there have been a number of new releases that have focused principally on getting SharePoint 2010-ready. O3Spaces has also been busy, this time adding Linux support.
