This week in the document management space is a focus on document viewers and a couple of new releases, including one from Nuance that lets users hear their documents. Accusoft has also released a viewer for the cloud and Box has been busy buying Crocodocs for its HTML 5 viewer technology. Meanwhile, Xerox is on tour of the Middle East.

There have been a number of new releases this week in document management, including OpenText’s customer communication management system that offers tight Microsoft integration. Xerox has also been busy with the release of ConnectKey, Novell securer’s document with new security measures, and the German national postal service enters the world of mobile apps.

It’s quiet enough in the document management space this week. There are a few notable items though including the Xerox, McAfee partnership, Jahia is gearing up for the Wise release, we take a look at Office.com, OpenText beats recent earnings trends, and bigtincan upgrades platform.

While the upgrade to Xerox’s document review platform is interesting from a functionality point of view, it's even more interesting from an industry perspective because it shows the company's ongoing commitment to extending and building its document management capabilities.
 

Heading into the holiday season and things are slowing down. But there are still some gems like SpringCM’s problems with Salesforce, Xerox’s progress in the MFP space, the iPad version of Microsoft’s OneNote productivity app, HP research that finds enterprises are not protecting documents and Mike Doane on effective taxonomies for documents in SharePoint 2010.

Yesterday we saw in the Forrester Wave for Enterprise CMS Suites 2011 for Q4 that there is a shift in the enterprise CMS market away from the big, lumbering giants of a couple of years ago toward more content-centric apps designed to fulfill a specific business function. Today, we’ll take a look at how some of the major vendors are dealing with this challenge.

It’s a busy week everywhere, with Oracle and SharePoint’s annual conference. And there’s been a lot of document management too. Xerox has upgraded DocuShare, Oracle’s E-Business Suite has new invoice security, Autonomy has upgraded WorkSite, there’s mobile document management for iPad from NewSoft, while Colligo and NewsGator have teamed up for SharePoint functionality.

The last time we checked in with the folks at ABBYY, they had released its Mobile Data Capture Solution, which lets camera-equipped mobile devices capture, process and share data. Today, ABBYY takes its document recognition, data capture and linguistic technologies one step further with a certified partner reseller agreement with Xerox.

Xerox Corporation has announced a new version of its DocuShare enterprise content management (ECM) platform. The new version has a number of enhancements designed to improve the speed and efficiency of managing the full life-cycle of business documents.

This week, in what may be a response to Microsoft’s recent moves to integrate its products, Google Apps and NetSuite team up and the result is definitely good for SMB. Xerox and Cisco have also partnered, CA offers data protection on Azure, while TrendMicro offers backup for very small businesses.

This week there is upgraded SharePoint governance from Axceler, Xerox looks at the value of technology in law firms, Clearwell offers an e-Discovery game on Facebook to match Farmville, Bridgeway upgrades its enterprise management suite and Epiq buys Encore.

This week, we had to look at Apple’s promised preferential iPad2 deal for SMBs, SAP sets itself up as a competitor to Salesforce in the SMB space, SMSs for customer relationship get an airing with Clickatell and Siemens offers a UC package for SMBs.

This week, there has been a lot of movement in the document capture and viewing space, with new capture functionality for SharePoint 2010 offered by CSI and extended viewing capabilities offered with Google Docs. PSIGEN also upgrades its capture capabilities, while Motive continues to expand its cloud-based document management system.

Busy week here in the document management mines. Alfresco made its document management software social, LibreOffice continued to expand its reach by adding portable functionality, Xerox bought some new document collaboration software with WaterWare and Oce took a look at the benefits of document imaging.
