Yahoo! (news, site) released version 10.1 of Yahoo! Web Analytics to all accounts this week. The release features changes to the reporting interface, an improved Segmentation Wizard UI and a new audience definition segment tool. 

With the U.S. Office of Management and Budget providing a framework for enabling the use of persistent cookies for web site measurement (see post on New OMB Guidance for details) there is lots of interest among federal web managers and communications staff in using Google Analytics (GA) and Yahoo! Analytics (YWA) -- the predominant "no cost" web analytics solutions on the market. 

Yahoo’s web analytics service, originally IndexTools until Yahoo took them over in 2008, is battling it out with Google in the web analytics ring. And despite their hold on the analytics world, according to CMS Watch, Yahoo beats Google in several areas important for enterprise analytics.

Yahoo!, the struggling Internet giant, has managed to complete its latest product: Yahoo! Web Analytics. While the name is uninspiring, the product actually looks like it has some potential. If anything, it has a sexy look and feel to it.

With this being a “controlled access launch,” not everyone interested in trying the new product will be able to do so. Hence, Google Analytics doesn’t have to worry. At least not yet.
