Email isn't dead right? Enterprise collaboration vendor Huddle acknowledges this and has provided a way for organizations to manage their email by integrating it with its collaboration platform.

Since VMWare (news, site) bought Zimbra from Yahoo last year, many have been wondering what the company wanted with an enterprise email, collaboration, and calendaring platform. The release of Zimbra 7 this week puts that in perspective and shows a company that is chasing after a larger part of the enterprise collaboration market.

Salesforce.com (news, site) makes another acquisition in the social space as it aims to widen its collaboration product base.

Following this week’s Windows Azure announcement by Microsoft, the ball was in the competition’s court. And Yahoo! responded with a cloud-related announcement of its own.

Yahoo! announced that it will offer the Zimbra Collaboration Suite as a hosted solution for educational institutions. According to Zimbra, over 500 schools are already using Zimbra. This hosted solution is currently available exclusively to .edu’s. Who knows — maybe, if all goes well, the solution will expand its wings beyond the .edu market.
