Over the course of its release history document management software developer KnowledgeTree (news, site) has had a habit of mirroring upgrades in the on premise version of its products with corresponding upgrades to its SaaS version.

The enterprise content management provider KnowledgeTree (news, site ) released v3.6.1 on June 19, and already it has announced that it has upgraded its SaaS solution to include all the functionality of the on-site version.
Focusing on businesses that have a large dependency on documents, and consequently document management solutions, the company says the SaaS upgrade will eliminate the need for new hardware, or in-house training for the IT department.
The principal feature that is now available on KnowledgeTree Live is the Microsoft Office Add-In. In addition, the ability to integrate with Zoho Writer makes it possible for users to access and edit documents remotely without high-cost desktop software.

Zoho, a Web-hosted Microsoft Office and Google competitor, has announced offline support for their Zoho Mail product. Zoho Mail joins Zoho Writer — the company’s word processing product — in using (ironically enough) Google Gears for offline support and access.
By comparison, Google has yet to implement any type of offline access to their Web-hosted email product, Gmail. Zoho, in choosing to utilize Google’s own offline-enabling engine, beat the search giant to the punch in an effort to remain competitive in the space.

Well they’ve gone and done it. Google has finally enabled offline access to Google Docs using their Google Gears plug-in. A little late considering Zoho did the same for Zoho Writer way back in November 2007 — also using Google Gears.
Google Docs and Zoho have always been rather handy for people on the go – you can access your documents from anywhere you can get online, you aren’t having to email yourself documents and it’s dead handy for teamwork, with users finding very useful the potential for sharing and collaboration that applications such as these provide.
