Laserfiche (news, site) kicked off its annual Empower Conference this week with several announcements, including the release of Laserfiche 8.2. The newest iteration of the company's document management tool pays special attention to governance, risk and compliance.

The highlights of the release include being up to the DoD 5015.2 version 3 standard as well as an updated Microsoft Office integration that simplifies imports from Outlook into Laserfiche.

“In today’s complex regulatory environment, having a well-planned approach to GRC is essential," said Kimberly Samuelson, Laserfiche Director of Government Strategy. "With DoD 5015.2 version 3-certified records management functionality, Laserfiche 8.2 serves as a foundational component of GRC, allowing organizations to drive better business outcomes."

Further, Laserfiche Software QA Engineer Jeanie Conner demo'd some smaller sweet spots for us yesterday, including:

  • Dynamic fields
  • Metadata management
  • Multi-value fields
  • Enhanced PDF controls
  • Dynamic stamps

If you're a fan of the system and couldn't make it to this year's gathering, you'll want to keep an eye out for these features-- there was a lot of applauding in the audience.

Powering Forward

Laserfiche Empower 2011 features more than 150 educational sessions on everything from Backup and Recovery to Configuring and Using Audit Trails to integrating Laserfiche with Microsoft SharePoint.

The conference, which brought in a record breaking 1,200 attendees in 2010, has attracted a total of 1,400 professionals this year, making it the biggest event in Laserfiche history.

The company's ever-bubbly CEO Nien-Ling Wacker reflected on these numbers during yesterday's keynote, and showed great enthusiasm for the coming months: “During times of economic turmoil, organizations do one of two things: retreat, or invest in their future success. For the Laserfiche community, the recession has inspired ingenuity and creativity in their use of agile ECM."

Learning Opportunities

Laserfiche's ECM system is designed to give IT managers central control over their information infrastructure while still providing the flexibility business users need to respond quickly to changing conditions. Built on Microsoft technologies, the company's suite supports Microsoft SQL and Oracle platforms, and features a seamless integration with Microsoft Office applications and a two-way integration with SharePoint.
