Austin, Texas-based Magnitude Software, an enterprise information management provider, has acquired Simba Technologies, a provider of data access and analytics connectivity. The buy fits its strategic plans to expand its data integration capabilities by acquiring a company that already provides those services to Google, Oracle, Microsoft, SAP, Tableau and more.

Terms of the purchase were not disclosed. However, Magnitude has a dedicated $100 million acquisition fund.

Magnitude Software Chairman and CEO Chris Ney noted in a statement that the acquisition furthers the company's strategic vision to "enable enterprise-wide visibility and insights for corporate performance management."

“As data heterogeneity expands exponentially, so does the complexity of connectivity challenges that Simba can help solve, accelerating our ability to put data into the hands of business users," he explained.

Master Data Management Industry

The big data technology and services market is growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 23.1 percent between 2014 and 2019, with annual spending reaching $48.6 billion in 2019, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC).

In a 2015 report on Master Data Management (MDM), Forrester cited Magnitude Software:

“At a minimum,” Forrester analyst Michele Goetz told CMSWire, “they are all able to scale across complex ecosystems, managing, integrating, orchestrating and syndicating master data and models/schemas.”

Learning Opportunities

Diverse Connectivity

Magnitude Software's offering includes operational reporting and analytics. Simba Technologies will add data access between front-end applications and back-end data sources. It helps enable universal access to data sources through Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), the defacto database connectivity standard.

The combined solutions will help organizations cope with data fragmentation within hybrid application environments (cloud and on premises), according to company officials.

Amyn Rajan, CEO of Simba Technologies, said in a statement that Simba complements the existing Magnitude Software solutions, allowing for connectivity to more diverse applications and a wide array of data environments.

Simba uses SimbaEngineX to build all of its drivers, and Simba's ODBC, Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) connectivity technology is embedded in client products.
