eXo Cloud Workspaces
In a statement issued by the San Francisco-based company today, the new release offers an improved cloud offering that provides a better user experience and better design then the previous cloud offering, Cloud Workspaces, which was released in beta 18 months ago. It added that the new release is the result of the experience that it gained from the development ofCloud Workspaces and that this version integrates social and enterprise collaboration features on-demand.
While the initial offering is free after sign-up, it seems that at some point in the near future eXo will be offering paid premium services that willcomplement rather than replace the free version, the company says.
The free version will continue, it says, while the additional premium services will be designed to suit different kinds of deployments and environments.
Cloud Workspaces, eXo Platform 4
eXo is, in effect, eXo Platform in the cloud and gives users access to exactly the same functionality that v4 does.
eXo Platform comes withweb portal, content and document management systems, collaboration features and a social network. Collaboration features encompass offerings such as wikis, forums, calendars and documents, all integrated around activity streams, social networking and workspaces.
For its part, eXo Cloud has been redesigned since the Workspaces release to provide an easier user experience and a more robust and flexible multi-tenant platform. eXo is targeting small teams and companies here by offering them access to a production-ready social intranet that doesn't require input from IT departments. It is part of the long term road-map of the company and will be supported with regular updates, improvements and security fixes as they are deemed necessary.
