Wcm Articles

Our friends at CMS Watch recently announced their take on trends in SaaS Web Content Management for 2009. We've been contemplating about the future of SaaS WCM for quite some time ourselves.

Let?s take a look-see at CMS Watch's predictions for the year to come and some more analysis of hosted Web CMS solutions.

paperthin 2008 record growth

PaperThin, the producer of ColdFusion-based Web CMS CommonSpot, announced that its 2008 Q2 and Q3 revenues shattered all company records, having grown an average of more than 50% year over year. Furthermore, the company’s average deal size increased by more than 30%.

Now, it’s time to update the product, perhaps. And PaperThin plans on doing so in 2009. The last major product release from PaperThin was in October, 2007, when CommonSpot 5.0 came out.

Ektron Makes a Move to the West

Published on Nov 21, 2008 in Web CMS

Ektron Opens Offices in Califrnia and Texas

From East to WestEktron is now ready to jump into those cowboy boots and embrace the oh-so-desired Bay Area. The Web CMS vendor (quite predictably so) announced the opening of two new offices — in San Francisco, California, and in Austin, Texas.

The addition of the new offices will extend Ektron’s market reach and provide additional support and services critical to the company’s expanding customer base and partner channel.

Ektron reports increasing demand for its products and services over the past 5 years. It also shows the revenue growth rate of over 400%.

During the past two years, due to the consistent increase in sales and ongoing development of the company’s partner channel, Ektron grew staff levels to approximately 200 employees and opened offices in Toronto, Canada, Sydney, Australia and the U.K.

The new San Francisco office will serve as a services and training facility. The Austin office will provide additional sales and services resources.

Coming on the heels of the September announcement of Ektron CMS400.NET v7.6 and Ektron’s new deployment options, Ektron is expanding big time. No wonder — it’s cheap, flexible, gets accolades every now and then and demos well.

It Has Arrived: New emagiC CMS.Net

Published on Aug 8, 2008 in Web CMS

emagiC CMS.net version 7 is out the door

Emagine has been working hard. Following the v6 release at the beginning of this year, here is the new and shiny v7 of emagiC CMS.Net several months later.

Emagine continues to build on its very attractive .NET framework, offering a WCM tool for web sites, intranets, extranets and portal sites. In addition to about twenty bug fixes — no new release comes without them — there are also some new features.

Bizyweb

Content management terminology changes with time. The times of the Micro CMS may soon be gone, as now it appears it is the era of the “simple CMS,” — at least as positioned by Bizy, Inc. They have announced the distribution of their “simple CMS” product Bizyweb. Were they joking?

We’ve been watching Edicy for more than a couple of weeks now trying to figure out where it is going. We still are waiting, but thought we’d share what we know so far.

Vignette is not having a good year. The company released its Q2 2008 financial results, and they’re not pretty. The revenue is down (again), GAAP net loss is substantial, non-GAAP net income is 73.5% down compared to the same period last year. The company says that sales and marketing efforts need improvement. But is it really so?

FatWire Gets a Huge Military Contract

We don’t usually talk about client wins for vendors — unless they are huge. And this one is a big for Web Content Management Provider FatWire. FatWire has been recruited to power the world’s largest military and veteran membership organization’s website — Military.com.

Alfresco Content management

At the same as Enterprise Content Management Provider Vignette is reporting lower expected earnings partially from a decrease in spending in the North American market, open source enterprise content management provider Alfresco is announcing a financial rock solid end to 2007. And 2008 is looking even brighter.

cms_tube.jpgIn a November communication Hannon Hill president David Cummings sighed, “…We sip our own champagne in practicing what we preach. We’re using our own product, Cascade Server, to manage our new online rich-media content.”

Few people can proudly admit to sipping their own supper but Hannon Hill demonstrates the strength of its convictions with the unveiling of CMS Tube, a questionably named CMS tutorial tool that actually just teaches users how to tap into all the benefits of the multi-faceted, AJAX-enhanced Cascade Server.
