Just in time for DrupalCon London 2011, Acquia, provider of Drupal Web CMS services, has announced the release of several new components to its Acquia Network offering. The general theme is helping developers manage and scale their Drupal-powered websites more easily. The package consists of a new dashboard, site-testing tools, training modules and more.

It started at Dries Buytaert's DrupalCon 2011 keynote. In this case, the "shot heard 'round the world" was a pair of words that he seemed to know would cause mixed reactions from the crowd: App store. This wasn't a product announcement, but so far throughout the conference, the term won't seem to die.

For someone who's spent most of her career writing about Linux and open source, it was a little brain-bending to see a Microsoft (news, site) booth at DrupalCon 2011. I managed to drag Mark Brown, senior product manager for the Microsoft Web Platform Team, away from the booth for a bit of a chat.
